1985 Topps – Alex Rios

Since today is Opening Day for the Sox I thought that I would post a couple of cards of the team from the South Side of Chicago. If you haven’t figured out by looking at this site yet that I like the White Sox than you haven’t really been looking at this site. One of the guys that I really will be rooting for this season is Alex Rios. Alex has shown what kind of player that he can be, but sometimes I think that he is his own worst enemy. I hope that he can have another season like we know that he can have this year.  (more…)

1986 Topps – Carlton Fisk Tribute (1980-1982)

Here is yet another card in the mock Carlton Fisk tribute that I made up. This card might not have been made yet if not for the Gary Carter tribute set that I made upon learning of his death. It was with that set that I made the decision to leave out the All Star and other special cards in order to keep things running a little better. I did include the ’81 Topps traded card of Carlton though. He did play for the White Sox in ’81 so it had to be there. Where things would have started getting tricky was in 1982 with the In Action and All Star cards that Topps put out. I think that for now those were best left off of the card.  (more…)

1984 Topps – A.J. Pierzynski

I had made this card a long time ago with some other Sox players. This was the first card type that I owned. It has probably been said many times on here, but I picked up my first baseball card ever in a trade for a french fry. It was a battered ’84 Topps Vance Law. I still have that card somewhere, and for that reason I always will enjoy this set.  (more…)

1987 Fleer – Pierzynski and Sale

In late 2010 I attended the White Sox game against the Tigers in Detroit. In the bottom of the ninth Sale gave up what appeared to be the game winning home run to Brandon Inge. The ball was ruled fair on the field, but was clearly foul. Thanks to replay the call was overturned and the White Sox had another chance. Sale struck out Inge, and pitched a great tenth to earn his first Major League win. I have the lineup card from the Tigers dugout that I bought prior to the game. After Sale earned the win I was stoked that it was mine. I made this card right after the win, but for some reason never released it.  (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Tyler Flowers

I thought since I am a Sox fan I should actually post some cards of my favorite team. I was having so much fun making cards of other teams that I neglected the one that I root for. I took this picture of Tyler in 2009 when he was brought up at the end of the season. He has come with a lot of hype, but yet the veteran catcher is still around. I fear that Tyler is headed for Joel Skinner status in Chicago. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Mark Buehrle

The final card of Mark today is one of my favorites. As luck would have it I came across a free ticket to a Cubs-Sox game in 2009. Of course as per usual Mark was pitching. Being in a National League park though it also meant that Mark would get some at bats. I always thought that Upper Deck really changed things up when they started by showing some things that were out of the norm. I think that Mark running to first with his batting helmet on was a perfect fit for this card. (more…)

1984 Fleer – Mark Buehrle

Today I thought I would get rid of the rest of the Buehrle cards that are sitting in my completed folder. I have not made a card for a while, but I have so many sitting around that this blog could go on for a while if I never made another card. With Mark Buehrle leaving the White Sox I thought that I would put out the rest of my completed cards of one of my favorite players. I am sure that I will try and see Mark pitch next season to get a couple new cards of him in a Marlins uniform.  (more…)

1987 Topps – Mark Buehrle

The hardest news of the off season was that Mark Buehrle would not be coming back to the White Sox next year. Early on you knew that it was the case, but you kept thinking that maybe another ‘all in’ miracle would happen like last year. It did not, and Mark went to play with Ozzie in Florida. I quit watching baseball after the strike in ’94. When I came back to the game Mark was a young pitcher for the White Sox. His love of the game quickly made him a favorite of mine. He is now on another team, but I think that he will forever be remembered as a member of the White Sox. Will he end up bronzed in the outfield? I struggle with that question. If he is I will be there though. (more…)

1982 Topps – Carlos Quentin

I think that it is pretty cool that one of my favorite players on the White Sox shares the same birthday that I do. He is six years younger than me, but I like the fact that he and I celebrate on the same day. I made this card a while ago, but like some cards that I make they take a while to find there way onto this site. I thought today would be the perfect day to post this card. (more…)

1939 Play Ball – George Gick

Over the next few days I will be moving to West Lafayette from Northern Indiana. I don’t know when I will have internet again so this may be my last card for a few days. I wanted to post this card of George because his story is a new one to me. I ran into his daughter while working here in town and saw the above picture hanging on her wall. I recognized the uniform immediately and inquired about it. She said that it was her father and that he played for the White Sox in the 30’s. (more…)

Bronzed Heroes – Tom Seaver

One of the great things about this set is that I get to make a card of Tom Seaver. I have an unwritten rule that I can only use my pictures for cards. That makes it very hard to get some players on a card. This set allows me to make cards of players that I admired growing up, but do not have any pictures of. Tom is one of those guys. I loved watching him pitch for the White Sox, and every August I relive his 300th win. In honor of that I thought it would be the perfect time to put this card up on the site. (more…)

1977 Topps – Paul Konerko

Just to show that I have not lost my marbles and become a Cub fan I thought that I would post a card of Paul Konerko to round out the night. I have posted more cards of Paul than any other player. That is fitting because I have seen Paul play more than any other player in person. He is one of my favorites so I am sure that there will be many more cards of his to come in the future. (more…)

2001 Upper Deck Decades – Carlton Fisk

I thought that since the White Sox were unveiling the statue of the Big Hurt tomorrow I would make a card from the last time I was at the ballpark to see a statue unveiled. Of course it was of Carlton Fisk. I altered the Upper Deck card a little to  make it my own. (more…)

1985 Fleer – Lucas Harrell

This is a card that I made early on in my card making career. I was playing around with making a ’85 Fleer template when I made this card. I think that I have made a much better template now. This card is pretty rough, but I done like to remake cards. This is how I made it so this is how I will post it. (more…)

1986 Topps – Tyler Flowers

Here is another card in my series today of White Sox and Red Sox players to commemorate the 25th anniversary of my second Major League game between those two teams. Tyler is a prospect that has been the talk of the team since 2009. I took the picture on the front of this card in 2009 as Tyler was seeing some action late in a game. It was my first time seeing him, and I was pretty excited. (more…)

1966 Topps – Paul Konerko

Last year I was focused on making a set based on the ’85 Topps set. I started just for fun making a card of Gordon Beckham. Then I decided to make a set of the White Sox players. From there it branched out to making a set of ’85 Topps cards with players from all teams that I have seen. A natural next step in that was to branch out to other sets. This ’66 Topps Paul Konerko card was an early attempt at that. As I have said before I am making new templates that are easier to use so I am releasing some of these cards that have sat in a folder on my computer. (more…)

1970 Topps – Paul Konerko

Continuing the theme of getting some older cards on the blog I am posting this 1970 Topps card of Paul Konerko. I made this card with an old program, and I made it very hard on myself to make cards of different players. With some knowledge gained over the past year of making these cards I have come up with ways to make multiple cards fairly easy. Before I start on a new ’70 Topps template I thought I should release this card. (more…)

1964 Topps – Carlos Quentin

Like the Konerko card I just posted this card was made this past winter. I had an old editing program, and I was still new to the card making game. I have a new template that I think is a little better so I thought I should release these older cards before I put out any new ones with the new template. (more…)

1964 Topps – Paul Konerko

I have four cards that have been sitting in my folder for some time. I have new templates for these cards so before I release any new cards with the new templates I feel I should post the cards that I made over the winter. I made a few cards of Paulie in a White Sox jersey this winter because I was not sure if he would be in that jersey this summer. Thankfully he is, but I have a few cards of him that I need to release. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Lucas Harrell

Lucas was claimed off waivers from the White Sox earlier this week. Because I am not quick at these things it took this long for me to get his ’11 custom card on the site. I enjoyed the way that he interacted with the fans so I was sad to see him go. On the upside I may have to try and get a picture of him with his new team for the update set. (more…)

2011 csd All Star Glossy – Paul Konerko

After a great campaign by the White Sox it was announced tonight that Paul Konerko was voted into the All Star game by the fans. It is great that Paul was voted in, but I really don’t think that it should have come down to that. Since the start of last season on one player has had better numbers than Paulie. I am glad that the people made the right choice, and put him in the game. (more…)

2011 csd All Star – Carlos Quentin

Carlos was selected as the lone representative of the White Sox when the All Star selections were announced. I am cheating on my All Star cards this season and copying the Topps All Star Glossy format from the 80’s. I had a plan for an All Star card, but not the time to execute it. I do like the look of this card. (more…)

2011 csd Custom Opening Day – Mark Buehrle

Now only a few months late is another of my Opening Day cards. I liked the idea of this set, but I had way too much going on to give it the attention that it deserved. So instead of it going out when it should have I think the cards will just trickle in as I continue to make them. (more…)

1993 Donruss – Juan Pierre

I made a couple of cards with pictures of Juan with the Bob Feller tribute behind him, and had one more that I wanted to use. I had already used up a couple templates for Juan that I could have put this picture on so I used the ’93 Donruss template. I think that it worked out well. (more…)
