1980 Topps

1986 Topps – Carlton Fisk Tribute (1980-1982)

Here is yet another card in the mock Carlton Fisk tribute that I made up. This card might not have been made yet if not for the Gary Carter tribute set that I made upon learning of his death. It was with that set that I made the decision to leave out the All Star and other special cards in order to keep things running a little better. I did include the ’81 Topps traded card of Carlton though. He did play for the White Sox in ’81 so it had to be there. Where things would have started getting tricky was in 1982 with the In Action and All Star cards that Topps put out. I think that for now those were best left off of the card.  (more…)

1986 Topps – Gary Carter Tribute (1979-1982)

This is the second card that I have made for Gary today. I loved the way that Topps showcased their cards for Pete Rose in 1986. The design was simple, but really showed off their work. I made a couple of these for Carlton Fisk, but with the death of Gary Carter I felt that I had to make a few cards for him.  (more…)

1980 Topps – John Danks

Since I will be at the game right now I thought that I would post a card of the starter for the White Sox. I made this card a while back when I made the rest of my 1980 Topps cards. It was the last one left, but in trying to get all my sets on here early I couldn’t post this card. What better time to get it out. (more…)

1980 Topps – J.J. Putz

Thanks to MLB.tv I have watched a few Diamondbacks games already this season. Their new closer is J.J. Putz who was a setup man on the White Sox last season. J.J. had a good year, but the Sox decided to go another way with the arms they already had this season. Putz had a good audition with his contract to sign a bigger one somewhere else. (more…)

1980 Topps – Jim Thome

Since the weather has been horrible I have spent the last couple of days trying to organize this mess that is my card collection. I have spent some time trying to see what has become of it. One set from the 80’s that I have barely any cards of is the 1980 Topps set. Of course that explains why I like the cards I make from it so much. (more…)

1980 Topps – Daniel Hudson

After watching a replay of the 30 Clubs show in the MLB Network featuring the Diamondbacks I was reminded of how much we looked forward to seeing Daniel Hudson when he got to the big club. By the time he did it was only a short time before he was traded to the Diamondbacks as part of the Edwin Jackson deal. We will never know now how he would have been handled as a member of the Sox. (more…)

1980 Topps – Scott Podsednik

Once I made this template for the White Sox I knew that I would be making a few of this card. I don’t know why, but I really like it. It is basically a ripoff by Topps of their 1974 set. They changed a few colors, but not too much else. I really have no real leanings towards that 1974 set, but I really like this set. I had a Fred Howard card early on in my trading career. For a while this was my oldest card. Maybe that has something to do with my liking for this set. (more…)
