1984 Fleer – Kurt Suzuki
Kurt is a player that I have followed for a while now. I watched him on television when his Cal State Fullerton team made its run in 2004. I was in Omaha watching the day that they won the College World Series against Texas. For some reason this catcher made me take notice. If you have read this blog you know that the catcher is by far my favorite position. Kurt is one of the current crop of catchers that I enjoy watching. I took this picture early last season as he was warming up before facing the White Sox. (more…)
1984 Fleer – Mark Buehrle
Today I thought I would get rid of the rest of the Buehrle cards that are sitting in my completed folder. I have not made a card for a while, but I have so many sitting around that this blog could go on for a while if I never made another card. With Mark Buehrle leaving the White Sox I thought that I would put out the rest of my completed cards of one of my favorite players. I am sure that I will try and see Mark pitch next season to get a couple new cards of him in a Marlins uniform. (more…)
1984 Fleer Special – Pierre, Rios, Quentin
This was one of the first SuperStar Special cards that I attempted. As a kid I always looked forward to seeing who Fleer paired up on these cards every year. I don’t have the access to the players like Fleer does so I have to be a little creative when I make these cards. (more…)
1984 Fleer – Brent Lillibridge
Brent has had a pretty good last couple of days while getting some playing time in the outfield for the White Sox. I have seen him hit two home runs in two days watching limited parts of the two games. I thought that I should make a couple of cards of the young guy to give him some love on this site. I like the simplicity of the ’84 Fleer template so I thought I would use that for the first card. I added the updated logo just to see how it looked. I think that it look pretty cool. (more…)
1984 Fleer – David DeJesus
After a outage last night prevented me from posting any cards we are back in action today. The first card is of Oakland’s new outfielder David DeJesus. As with a few players so far I had to make this card before I could make the 2011 custom card. For some reason I really thought that the A’s team should be on the ’84 Fleer card. Don’t ask me why, but I just thought that they fit. (more…)
1984 Fleer – Conor Jackson
I am really getting into a pattern here putting the cards that I made for the back of my 2011 customs on the site early in the day, and then putting the customs themselves on at night. Maybe I like the custom cards a little more. Some of these ’84 Fleer cards will look better on the back of my card then they do by themselves. This card is alright, but it lacks action. In that respect it is a good copy of the early 80’s cards. (more…)
1984 Fleer – Kevin Kouzmanoff
Part of the fun of making this years set has been designing cards for the backs of my 2011 customs. If I made a card with the player on it in the past it will go on the custom. If not I have to make one up for the player. I have complained about making these cards, but it has been fun to recreate some of the cards of the past with teams other than the White Sox on them. For some reason I knew the A’s had to be on the ’84 Fleer card. I don’t know why, but I just thought they should be on this card. (more…)
1984 Fleer – Andy LaRoche
Andy has already been featured on this blog with a Famous Lineage card. His brother and father were also in last years set. With all of that on his side Andy had to be in this years custom set. In order to do that though I had to make a custom card for the back. I don’t know if I knew exactly what I was getting into when I started this. If I go to as many games this year as last year things will get very busy around here. (more…)
1984 Fleer – Cliff Pennington
Early on in my preview set I made the decision to use my own cards on the back of this year’s custom set. I was sick of looking up cards of players, and thought it would make things easier. It also would be a chance to show off some of my past cards. I must have been tired that night because I never factored new players into that equation. I figures the new players would be in A ball or college where cards of them would be hard to find anyway. One way that I made my job easier in making the cards for the back was to just make as many as I could at once with the same template. In the case of the A’s I made them with my new ’84 Fleer template. The other one was kind of rough so I decided to try it again. Early on this year I was back to making ’85 Topps cards for the backs. I made them last year for the entire set so I wanted to try something different. I may jump around a bit and try out new sets knowing that I am using the cards on the back of another. (more…)
1984 Fleer – A.J. Pierzynski
This is another card with a picture taken during the Labor Day game in Detroit. A.J. knocked in the winning run so he was of course the hero. As he was getting interviewed after the game I kept waiting for a shaving cream pie to come into play. It never did, but I did get this picture of A.J. during the interview. (more…)
1984 Fleer – Carlos Quentin
Here is another 1984 Fleer card. I made these from scratch as well, but as you can see by the design there is not too much to them. That being said I like the simple design, and how some of these pictures look on it. This would also be an easy design to change for other teams. (more…)
