1993 Donruss – Ozzie Guillen
This is kind of a weird card for me to make for two reasons. One of those is that Ozzie was in this set as a player. I usually don’t make cards like this, but I felt the need to make the card. The second reason is that Ozzie is no longer the manager of the Chicago White Sox. Ozzie came in and took the Sox to the next level. He won the World Series in just his second year at the helm of the team. He has never been able to re-create that success though, and that might be a partial reason as to why he was fired. As a Sox fan I am torn today. I realize that something had to happen. That being said I am excited to see how the Sox will go from here. Of course I am also sad to see the skipper go. (more…)
1972 Topps – Gordon Beckham
I don’t know why it has taken me so long to put this card out. It was one that I made during last season. Sometimes for one reason or another a card just sits in a folder on my computer for no reason. I would like to try this ’72 design again so I need to get this card out there. (more…)
1987 Topps – Kevin Eichhorn
I have already released several cards of Kevin. I remember when his dad was a hot rookie card to have so it was only natural that I made a few cards of him. I was already making the Whitecaps team set in the ’87 Topps style so I made one more while I had the template open to get Kevin in the set. (more…)
1987 Topps – Kyle Ryan
I only have a couple more of the cards that I made for the backs of my ’11 csd Custom set for the Midwest League opponents of the Silverhawks to go. Both cards are of West Michigan Whitecap players. (more…)
1988 Topps – Rocky Gale
So many cards to post and so little time to do it. I made this card back in May, and still have not gotten around to posting it. It is the last of my ’88 Topps cards for the Fort Wayne Tincaps. I made these cards for the backs of my 2011 csd Custom cards. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Miguel Cabrera
Since he came into the league with the Marlins Miguel Cabrera has been a force. He is now playing in what should be another post season after helping Detroit claim what you would guess in the Central. Both the Indians and Sox are so far back that it would take a monumental collapse by Detroit for either team to have a shot. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Jhonny Peralta
Since I have pretty much conceded the season to the Tigers now I thought that the next couple of cards should feature them. Jhonny was a late season pick up last year, and he has helped them to the Division title this season. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Michael Pineda
I first heard of Michael when he went up against the White Sox early this season. He had a good game, but most people do when they face the Sox for the first time. He did have good games against other teams though, and was selected to the All Star game. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Matt Holliday
Since I had some fun releasing my Midwest League All Star cards yesterday I thought that I would release a few of my MLB All Star glossies today. I thought that I would start it off with this card of Matt Holliday. For some reason I really like this card, and I think that is part of the problem of why some of these have not been released yet. I wanted to do it right. At some point though I just have to get them out there. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Zach Walters
The Silverhawks ended their season today with a win so I thought that the last card of the day should be of a Silverhawk player. Zach is a guy who started off strong. Sadly I moved before the end of the season so I really have lost touch with this team. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Jake Blackwood
Jake is yet another player that had a great game when I saw him play, and then went on to make the Midwest League All Star game. He came up just short of the cycle, and led Fort Wayne to the victory in game one of a doubleheader. He really had a great game, but could not back it up in the nightcap. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Rob Brantly
Here is yet another All Star Glossy card featuring a Midwest League All Star. I saw Rob play very early this season in South Bend. For some reason I have seen many West Michigan Whitecaps games. That day I added two more as rain allowed me to see a doubleheader. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Hernan Perez
Today I decided to get some of my creations on this site since I have been without internet for so long. I really need to get some of my 2011 creations out there before 2012 gets here. Perez is another player who had a good game against the Silverhawks that used that as a springboard to an All Star selection. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Matt Jackson
As I have said on this blog a couple of times I went to a doubleheader in South Bend to watch one player for the Tincaps when Matt Jackson had the great start. Matt really dealt the game I saw him pitch, and apparently he kept it going throughout the first half to earn his All Star selection. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Greg Rohan
Greg is a player who made the Midwest League All Star team this season during his second year with the Peoria Chiefs. I love how the Midwest League All Star logo looks on this card, and I wish that I had seen a few more teams play this season so that I could have expanded this set a bit. A move further away from the Silverhawks made that hard to do. (more…)
1986 Topps – Carlton Fisk Tribute (1972-1975)
Part of the fun for me with this blog is going back and re-creating the cards that I loved as a child. For the most part I have taken my pictures and put them on the templates from pre 90’s cards. One of the cooler sub sets that I can remember from the 80’s was the Pete Rose tribute set that Topps put out in 1986. They had all of his base cards in a six card set. Of course I had to try and re-create this set. I was going to use some cards of Paul Konerko that I had made. To get that going though I would have to creat a couple of new ones to start. Instead I thought about how cool it would be to just make this set for my favorite player as a child, Carlton Fisk. I have only made the first card so far, but I like how it turned out. It might be a while, but I plan on finishing this small mini set. (more…)
1984 Topps – Curtis Painter
I thought that since I had made the template for the Boilers with the intention of making it easy to make cards for multiple teams that I should try it out. This card was a little easier to make than the Purdue card. I have an actual card from 1984 to use to pick out colors. If I had to make this card from scratch I certainly would not have chosen these colors. I like the set overall though so I will stay true to it when possible even if I don’t like the colors they chose then. I may have to make an alternate version of this card eventually though. (more…)
1984 Topps – Ralph Bolden
I thought that I would post a couple football cards on this last Sunday without football. I wanted to try and replicate the ’84 Topps set. Earlier on this site I just altered an existing card to save some time. The design is simple enough that I thought it wouldn’t take too much to do. The hardest part for me though was how to make the card a template that I could use to make other cards. Once I figures that out it was easy to make. Easy that is except for coming up with the Boilers colors. Black and Gold would be used, but where and what shades? I also was struggling with what color to use for the nameplate on the card. In ’84 that plate color had nothing to do with the team colors. Starting from scratch was a challenge, but I like the results. I am sure that a few more of these will show up throughout the season. (more…)
1985 Fleer In Action – Ricardo Allen
In a few minutes I will be leaving to watch the Boilermakers open up the season against Middle Tennessee State. It is not the biggest matchup in the nation today, but it is the most interesting to me. I thought that I would celebrate the opening of football season with a custom card. This is a custom card blog after all. For some reason I have been wanting to try the ’85 Fleer Football cards for a while. I made this one very quickly so it may be a bit off, but for the most part it captures the essence of that card. (more…)
