1986 Topps – Carlton Fisk Tribute (1980-1982)

Here is yet another card in the mock Carlton Fisk tribute that I made up. This card might not have been made yet if not for the Gary Carter tribute set that I made upon learning of his death. It was with that set that I made the decision to leave out the All Star and other special cards in order to keep things running a little better. I did include the ’81 Topps traded card of Carlton though. He did play for the White Sox in ’81 so it had to be there. Where things would have started getting tricky was in 1982 with the In Action and All Star cards that Topps put out. I think that for now those were best left off of the card.  (more…)

1986 Topps – Gary Carter Tribute (1979-1982)

This is the second card that I have made for Gary today. I loved the way that Topps showcased their cards for Pete Rose in 1986. The design was simple, but really showed off their work. I made a couple of these for Carlton Fisk, but with the death of Gary Carter I felt that I had to make a few cards for him.  (more…)

1981 Topps – E’Twaun Moore

Since I made an ’81 Topps card for JJ I thought I would make one for his former and current teammate E’Twaun Moore. I liked the real card from the set so it was only natural that I would try these for the two new members of the team. (more…)

1981 Topps – JaJuan Johnson

JaJuan Johnson came to Purdue as part of a great recruiting class by new coach Matt Painter. I really enjoyed watching him play for four years at Purdue. He will continue his playing career in the NBA now with the Boston Celtics. He was selected with the 27th pick overall by the New Jersey Nets, and then traded to the Celtics for MarShon Brooks who the Celtics drafted with the 25th pick.  When the Celtics drafted E’Twaun Moore with the 55th pick of the draft they ensured that these two former Boilers would continue playing together. 1981 Topps – Gordon Beckham

While this is not the first 1981 Topps card I have made it is the first White Sox card. I made a terrible effort at a Sammy Sosa Rangers card a while back. The Sosa card was made with a bad image, and I didn’t feel the need to re-do it. I think that experience caused me to shy away from trying another ’81 Topps card. I found a great custom by Steve at White Sox Cards that seemed like one I could use to make this card. It was a Mark Teahen birth years card that I made into my White Sox template. It worked very well I think, and I would like to make a few more. (more…)

1981 Topps – Sammy Sosa

This card is a little rough, but then agan so was the end of Sammy’s career. Sammy was the king of Chicago before the 2004 season rolled around. A corked bat and an early flight out of town sent him out of town on a sour note. It really is too bad so see how the fans turned on him. This picture of Sammy was taken in 2007 when his Rangers were in town to play the White Sox. It was one of two attempts he made to regain his former form. He had a decent 2007, but would not play baseball again. It will be interesting to see how the Hall of Fame voters treat him. (more…)
