1986 Topps – Gary Carter Tribute (1983-1985)
Here is the third installment of the Gary Carter Tribute that is modeled after the 1986 Topps tribute set to Pete Rose. The tribute set starts to get into cards here that I collected heavily as a kid. It also gets into Gary’s Mets career with the ’85 Topps traded card of Gary. I decided to leave the All Star and Record Breaker cards out for now. They may come back later in the set, but for now they really would have messed everything up. (more…)
1983 Topps – Brent Lillibridge
The other card I made tonight for Brent is this look at the ’83 Topps design. I normally make my own templates, but I loved the one Clinton uses over at A Hair Off Square so I asked him if I could use it. Thankfully he is a great guy and let me use it. I will have to make a couple more of these to get some use out of the template. (more…)
1983 Topps Super Veteran – Jamie Moyer
Jamie has been playing so long that he was actually almost able to have a card in the ’83 Topps set. Jamie is sitting out this season so I put his date on the card as 2010. He is recovering from surgery but would like to make a comeback next season. I really hope that he does. (more…)
1983 Topps – Mark Buehrle
I have really enjoyed looking at the ’83 Topps cards over at A Hair Off Square. I asked him if I could borrow his ’83 Topps black template and he obliged. For some reason I cannot make a good one, and he had one that he was already using. I thought that I would make a card with it tonight since it is raining outside. (more…)
1983 Topps – Paul Konerko/Carlton Fisk
Watching the Sox game tonight I saw Paul Konerko hit a home run over the Green Monster to give the White Sox a 3-1 lead over the Red Sox. The home run was important because it was the 376th of Paulie’s career. That tied him with Carlton Fisk for 66th all time. This is important to me because two of my favorite players of all time are now linked for what I hope is a very short period. The event inspired me to make my first card in quite some time. I thought that I would post it right away so that others could enjoy it. I posted the card as a 1983 Topps because I just basically tweaked my ’83 Topps Super Veteran template to make the card. 1983 Topps Super Veteran – Omar Vizquel
I was thinking about the career that Omar has had, and how it seems as if he had been around forerver. One of the sites that I like to read is called The Phillies Room. He makes custom cards as well, and calls his Chachi. While looking through his cards I saw that he updated the old Topps Super Veteran cards that came out in 1983. He had a very nice Jamie Moyer card that made me want to try my hand at this set. I will post my Moyer in the near future, but for now I thought I would start with the White Sox player who is still playing. I made the card from scratch so that I had a decent template to use. There are a couple differences, but I feel that I have kept the spirit of the card intact. (more…)
1983 Topps – Alexei Ramirez
If you have a close up picture of a player, and an action picture what can you do with them? You can make a 1983 Topps card that’s what. I have already made two cards from this set, but they were both Twins players. This is the first White Sox card. It is a little rough. I still have to figure out how to properly replace the Topps logo in the upper right hand corner. It is a little rough, but I liked both pictures enough to release it now. This was the first of two years in a row where Topps decided to have two pictures on the card. That makes it a little tougher for me to make cards because I need a close up headshot to make them.
