2013 Topps – Clay Manering

2013 Topps CLAY MANERING

I have been thinking about a project for a little while to use the current Topps template for some of the pictures that I have taken this spring. I figure to take many pictures up until the end of summer so I thought I would make another custom set. My Photoshop skills have really started to deteriorate as I don’t use the program very often. This is a great way to get me back into using the program as well as a great way to show some of the pictures that I really liked from the season.  (more…)

1987 Topps – Brad Mumma

Tonight I thought that I would finish up this small spree of local players with Brad Mumma. Brad made it the farthest of any former Slicer that I have seen in person. He spent time with the Double A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. I took this picture a couple of years ago as Brad was pitching for the Joliet Jackhammers.  (more…)

1984 Topps – Kris Staats

I guess that today I will have a theme of former Slicers on the blog. I thought that since I created a new tab for former Slicers that I should add some cards to the list. I watched Kris as part of a record setting LaPorte Slicer offense in 2005. He then made his mark at Purdue as the holder on field goals. It was nice to see a local kid playing for my Boilers.  (more…)

1987 Topps – Dustin DeMuth

Dustin was a fun player to photograph last spring. I had watched him play football for my hometown team, but had not seen him play baseball yet. I am a Purdue fan, but I did root for Dustin (who plays for the hated Hoosiers) when he came to bat. I was lucky enough to see a couple games that weekend so Dustin has had a few cards made from them.  (more…)

1975 Topps – Brad Mumma

Are you sick of the ’75 Topps cards yet? I am not. I have had some fun coming up with a few different color variations with this card. I thought that I would include a hometown player in this set. Brad was a star player for the LaPorte High School baseball team before his pro career. He never made it above Double A, but it is still cool to see a local kid do well. (more…)

2011 Gypsy Queen – Brad Mumma

I enjoyed making a few cards with the Gypsy Queen template. I didn’t want to use players who could be in the set so I branched out to find some players who I thought would make interesting subjects for these cards. Brad Mumma was a local ballplayer who had a decent pro career. He never made the majors, but was a solid pitcher. He is from my hometown so he will have a few cards on this site. (more…)

1991 Leaf – Dustin DeMuth

Since I was going to make a few cards of Dustin I thought that I would try one from his birth year. It really makes you stop and think when you are making birth year cards that are on the edge of when you quit collecting. Maybe I should stop doing this because it is making me feel old. I always liked this design so I thought I might try and make a few of them. What better players to use than some of the players in this weekends big series in West Lafayette? (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Dustin DeMuth

Dustin was a player that I watched play football for my hometown high school team for four years. Needless to say as a Purdue fan I was a little disappointed when he signed with Indiana to play baseball. He was part of the draw of attending the games this weekend. This is the first of five Hoosier cards that I plan to have in this set. It pains me to make that many cards of a rival school, but each card has a reason for being in the set. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Brad Mumma

Minor League Monday concludes with another card of local pitcher Brad Mumma. I had some good pictures of him so I thought I would make a couple of cards out of them. Brad was a guy who grew up in my hometown of LaPorte, IN before playing briefly in the Blue Jays organization. He closed out his career by pitching for the Joliet Jackhammers. (more…)

1985 Topps – Brad Mumma

Brad is a pitcher from my hometown of LaPorte, IN. He spent time in the Blue Jays organization, but ended up pitching for the Joliet Jackhammers in 2009. I was at a game he pitched against the Railcats and took a few pictures of the hometown boy. I used the template that I used to make the 25th anniversary White Sox set for this card. I know that it doesn’t look like the actual 1985 Topps card, but I really like how it looks. (more…)

Kris Staats

The third card in the football preview set is of Boilermakers receiver Kris Staats. Kris is a local product who played his high school football for the LaPorte Slicers. He is now a receiver on the Boilermaker squad, but since 2008 he has also been the holder on field goals and extra points. This season as Carson Wiggs tries to set some field goal records Kris will be an important part of that. (more…)
