1985 Fleer – Zach Walters

1991 Fleer – Dan Haren

This is a card that I made for the back of my 2011 custom set that was kind of lost. I had great hopes for the set, but each card took way too much time for me to make. The idea of making a card to put on the back similar to the old Stadium Club cards just added to the work. That being said I made many of the cards without ever releasing them. This is one of those cards. They were not the best to look at, but since I took the time to make them I thought that I would release them here. I have always liked watching Dan pitch. The day that I saw him play in 2010 he really gave me a lot of good opportunities to take pictures of him. He already has a few cards on this site.

1991 Fleer – Miguel Montero

1990 Upper Deck – Chris Young

Chris is a player that I have followed for a while. He came up with the White Sox before being traded to the Diamondbacks. He had a good day on Opening Day yesterday for the D-Backs so I thought I would release this card of his that I made last season.  (more…)

1987 Fleer – Russell Branyan

Russell is slugger for sure. He is not in the game for his defense. He is in the game to hit the longball. I made this card last summer to go on the back of my 2011 custom card. Part of the tough part about that card was that I had to make cards for the back. It was a long process that in the end made the set fail. I loved how it looked, but it took way too much time to make.  (more…)

2011 csd All Star Glossy – Zach Walters

The Silverhawks ended their season today with a win so I thought that the last card of the day should be of a Silverhawk player. Zach is a guy who started off strong. Sadly I moved before the end of the season so I really have lost touch with this team. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Rossmel Perez

During his short time in South Bend Rossmel became one of my favorite Silverhawk players. It didn’t hurt that he was a catcher, but he really seemed to have fun playing the game. I would love to see him play for the Diamondbacks one of these days. (more…)

1985 Fleer – Zach Walters

I have really been getting behind in posting my Silverhawks cards. For the last couple of years I had a Minor League Monday feature where it was the only day I would post Minor League cards. I have missed it the last couple of weeks so maybe I will just post cards whenever I want for a while to catch up. (more…)

1987 Topps – Dan Haren

I like this set, and thanks to the snowpocolypse I have many of them sitting in a folder waiting to be showcased on this site. Dan is no longer with the Diamondbacks, but he was their ace for a few years. He was part of the draw when I went to see Arizona at Wrigley last season. He is now with the Angels so he has not changed colors too much. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Justin Upton

With the Sox playing at Arizona tonight I thought that I would release a couple cards of the D-Backs. Justin Upton is one of the players that I saw playing in A-ball for the local South Bend Silverhawks. He was the #1 pick of the 2006 draft so we knew that he had the potential to be very good. He has started to show that great potential in the Majors. (more…)

1987 Topps – Ryan Roberts

Ryan is a player that normally would not be on this site. I don’t know too much about him even though he is on the Diamondbacks. I saw him hit a home run live though so he will get this card as well as a card in the ’11 custom set. I love this ’87 Topps design so I have used it here and there for my cards that will go on the back of the custom set for this year. It is a simple design, but I think that it has held up well. (more…)

2011 Gypsy Queen – Bobby Borchering

I have yet to hold one of these cards in my hand, but I love what I have seen so far online. I have seen plenty of the actual cards along with a bunch of great customs by other bloggers. I decided to throw my hat into the ring and try and make a couple of these. I didn’t want make cards of players that are in the set so I decided to use some other players that I have seen over the last few years. The first of those is Bobby Borchering. Bobby was the 16th pick of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. I was lucky enough to watch him play many games in South Bend last season. I thought that he would be a good first choice for this set. (more…)

2011 csd All Star Glossy – Yazy Arbelo

I sat down and tried to come up with a cool design for my all star cards this season. Last year I just stole from the ’76, ’85, and ’86 Topps all star designs. I was determined to make a design that was my own. What happened was that I came up with a couple designs that I really want to keep for future custom cards. I stumbled across some all star glossy cards from the 80’s, and knew that I had stumbled across something. Instead of coming up with a new card I could just put out a glossy set. I used one of those cards for a template, and put the ’11 All Star logo on the bottom with the new date at the top. I really liked how these turned out. I would like to make more of these for the Midwest League as well as making them for the American Association and the MLB All Star game. This little sub set could grow to be fairly large before I am done. (more…)

1985 Fleer – Yazy Arbelo

I have a class A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks just a few miles away from my house. I attend a few South Bend Silverhawks games every year, and it is a given that they will have some cards on this site. In order to make my 2011 custom cards I had to make some cards for the back. I liked how the ’85 Fleer cards were looking so I decided that the Silverhawks would use that Yazy gets the first card because he has stood out the most to me this season. He was just named to the Midwest League All Star team as a reward for his efforts. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Kelly Johnson

Kelly is another player that has been in both major sets I have made. His 2010 custom card which is on the back of this one shows just his back, but I like the picture of him finishing a pop up slide so I put the picture on the card. Kelly is part of a young core in Arizona that could make some noise in the not too distant future. (more…)

1987 Topps – Ryan Roberts

Ryan was probably not going to be in my 2011 csd Custom set. Then he hit a home run during the at bat pictured on this card while I saw him play live, and he worked his way into the set. As with all new players in the set I needed a card for the back of my custom so this card was born of necessity. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Daniel Hudson

Daniel was a top prospect in the Sox organization before being traded to Arizona last season. I was able to see him pitch a couple of times, and was looking forward to seeing him play for the Sox on a more regular basis. A deal for Edwin Jackson at the trade deadline took that possibility away. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Chris Young

Chris was once a highly thought of prospect in the White Sox organization. He is now patrolling centerfield for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He seems to improve every year, and there is no telling how high his ceiling is. For a few years it would have been nice to see what he would have done in Chicago. For now though both teams are fine in center. (more…)

1987 Topps – Willie Bloomquist

Willie makes the set because of a good set of games against the Cubs. He hit a home run on Monday, and the next day knocked in the tying runs. That lead did not last though as the Cubs took the game. He was very good when I saw him play so he makes the set. That being said I needed a card for the back of my 2011 custom card so I made this ’87 Topps card to put there. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Henry Blanco

I posted my 1991 Fleer card of Henry a couple of days ago so that I could post this card of him. I watched him play for the Cubs for a while, and that fact alone gets him in this set. Henry has had a nice career as a backup catcher. You are playing the hardest position on the diamond, but then again you really aren’t playing it all that much. Not a bad gig. (more…)

1991 Fleer – Henry Blanco

Henry has had a very nice career as a backup catcher. For years he was the personal catcher for Greg Maddux. He is now the backup catcher for the Diamondbacks. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Xavier Nady

I was able to watch Xavier a bit last season when he was a member of the Cubs. He really seemed as if he was maybe playing past his time. The Cubs really didn’t have a spot for him except as a pinch hitter and an occasional defensive replacement. From what I saw in the outfield he should not be out there very often. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Bradin Hagens

The last card of Minor League Monday is the 2011 custom card of Bradin Hagens. Bradin was a member of the team last season so I thought I should get a card made of him right away. Bradin was a starter last season, but has worked out of the bullpen so far this season. (more…)

1988 Topps – Bradin Hagens

Bradin is another player that was on the ‘Hawks last season. Most of the time those guys are not with the team very long. Keon Broxton was already moved up just a couple of weeks into the season. Bradin is a solid player that I hope can make that move up soon. (more…)
