1987 Fleer

1987 Fleer – Pierzynski and Sale

In late 2010 I attended the White Sox game against the Tigers in Detroit. In the bottom of the ninth Sale gave up what appeared to be the game winning home run to Brandon Inge. The ball was ruled fair on the field, but was clearly foul. Thanks to replay the call was overturned and the White Sox had another chance. Sale struck out Inge, and pitched a great tenth to earn his first Major League win. I have the lineup card from the Tigers dugout that I bought prior to the game. After Sale earned the win I was stoked that it was mine. I made this card right after the win, but for some reason never released it.  (more…)

1987 Fleer – Russell Branyan

Russell is slugger for sure. He is not in the game for his defense. He is in the game to hit the longball. I made this card last summer to go on the back of my 2011 custom card. Part of the tough part about that card was that I had to make cards for the back. It was a long process that in the end made the set fail. I loved how it looked, but it took way too much time to make.  (more…)

1987 Fleer – A.J. Pierzynski

This is one of the cards I made just after last season when I thought that A.J. would not be back with the Sox. I wanted to have his cards on here for a couple of days since he is one of my favorite Sox players. I wanted to use this template because it is still one of my favorites from my childhood. I like how the card looks, and look forward to updating this template so that it looks a little better. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Carlos Quentin

One of the good things to come out of the weekend series with the Red Sox is the fact that Carlos Quentin is still a member of the White Sox. To celebrate that fact I thought that I would make a more modern version of the ’87 Fleer card with him on it. I like the ’87 Fleer design, and was just curious to see what the modern emblem would look like on the card. I might try another one of these with a grey line at the bottom of the card. (more…)

1987 Topps – Superstar Special (Adam Dunn and Adrian Gonzalez)

I really would like to make more cards like these from the 80’s. Of course I can’t get the access to the players that the card makers do. I have to get kind of creative to get these made. I chose the ’87 Fleer template because I love how the card looks. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Rossmel Perez

During his short time in South Bend Rossmel became one of my favorite Silverhawk players. It didn’t hurt that he was a catcher, but he really seemed to have fun playing the game. I would love to see him play for the Diamondbacks one of these days. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Justin Upton

With the Sox playing at Arizona tonight I thought that I would release a couple cards of the D-Backs. Justin Upton is one of the players that I saw playing in A-ball for the local South Bend Silverhawks. He was the #1 pick of the 2006 draft so we knew that he had the potential to be very good. He has started to show that great potential in the Majors. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Jeff Samardzija

It is weird how things turn out sometimes. Jeff played high school not too far away in Valpo. He played my Slicers in both football and baseball. He then went on to star at Notre Dame in football. He was arguably the third best pitcher on the Notre Dame pitching staff as well. He then signed a nice big contract to play baseball. He really has not found the success that many would have hoped he would have. He is in the bigs though, and that is much farther than most get. I have seen him pitch on multiple levels, and you have to root for the local kid. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Paul Konerko

Paulie might be the player on the Sox that I relate to the most on the Sox. Maybe it is because he is about as slow as I am. He is the captain of the White Sox, and I was glad to see that he was re-signed this off season. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Joakim Soria

I love the design of the 1987 Fleer card. Something about it just really looks great. I thought that 24 years ago, and I still think that today. That being said these cards take a little more work to get the head to pop off the card so I don’t make near as many as I should. I will have to try and get a few more made as the summer goes on. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Mike Aviles

I really like this 1987 Fleer set. The colors just seemed to work for some teams. One of them was the Royals. The blue just really seemed to fit the teams colors well. I have made a couple of these cards for them, and will post them over the next couple of months. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Albert Pujols

I may like this card more than any of the other ones that I have made so far. That might be why I saved it for last of the retro cards of Albert. Before the end of the night I will release the 2011 csd card of Albert. To me this just looked like a 1987 Fleer card. Something about it struck me as being very cool. (more…)

1987 Fleer – Alexei Ramirez

Sitting here snowed in I decided to try and make a couple of cards. I have a few that I have already made sitting in a file, but after I made this one of Alexei I thought I would post it right away. This was a terrible picture of Ramirez. He was way off center in my frame. As a picture for a card though it worked pretty well. (more…)
