1986 Topps – Carlton Fisk Tribute (1976-1979)

Just before I quite making cards I had this great idea to make a set much like the one that Topps did for Pete Rose in 1986. They took all of his cards and put the in sets of four to have a career spanning set. This is the second card of that set spanning the years 1976-1979. From here I have some decisions to make concerning the cards. If I don’t put any of the special cards or all star cards on the cards it will work out very nice. In my opinion though those cards are very important. I want to place them on the cards as well. I also toyed with the idea of adding Fleer and Donruss into the mix initially, and then Upper Deck and the others later. Of course things would get very confusing late when all the companies jumped into the mix. For now I think that I will keep things to just Topps. Later I might add some cards with just Donruss or just Fleer. I will at least make the next card in this set before deciding how to proceed.  (more…)

1987 Topps – Brad Mumma

Tonight I thought that I would finish up this small spree of local players with Brad Mumma. Brad made it the farthest of any former Slicer that I have seen in person. He spent time with the Double A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. I took this picture a couple of years ago as Brad was pitching for the Joliet Jackhammers.  (more…)

1987 Fleer – Pierzynski and Sale

In late 2010 I attended the White Sox game against the Tigers in Detroit. In the bottom of the ninth Sale gave up what appeared to be the game winning home run to Brandon Inge. The ball was ruled fair on the field, but was clearly foul. Thanks to replay the call was overturned and the White Sox had another chance. Sale struck out Inge, and pitched a great tenth to earn his first Major League win. I have the lineup card from the Tigers dugout that I bought prior to the game. After Sale earned the win I was stoked that it was mine. I made this card right after the win, but for some reason never released it.  (more…)

1977 Topps – Melky Cabrera

This is the final Royals card for the night. I like this card for a couple of reasons. The first is that for some reason I love the card design that Topps put out in 1977. Another is the fact that you can see the special patch that Melky is wearing. For some reason the Royals cards looked pretty cool to me so I made plenty of them. I will release the rest of them at a later time, but for now enjoy this final card of the day. (more…)

1982 Topps In Action – Mark Buehrle

This is a card that I have had made for quite some time. I like how it looks for the most part, but was waiting to make a regular issue ’82 Topps card to release it. I have learned quite a bit since making the card, but I still like how it looks. The card will now see the light of day as part of the Mark Buehrle day on this blog today.  (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Albert Pujols

The Pujols dump will conclude with the debut of the 2011 csd preview card of King Albert. After seeing way too much about him all day I thought that my card dump of him was in that mode. The front of the card is pretty standard by now with a picture of Albert that I took in 2009. I saw the Cards in Wrigley last summer, but my bleacher seats did not allow me to get too many good pictures of the star players. I will have to see them play this season to get some pictures for the regular set. (more…)
