1989 Upper Deck

1989 Upper Deck – Brendan Ryan

89 upper deck brendan ryanHere is another card that has been sitting around for a while. I saw Brendan play in St. Louis over my birthday weekend in 2009. I was a very fun trip that allowed me to see some Cardinal games from up close. For some reason the mustache of Brendan really made him interesting to photograph for me. That along with his socks which were very different seemed to be a lightning rod for my camera. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Ted Lilly

89 upper deck ted lilly

This was a very early attempt at a 1989 Upper Deck card for me. I took this picture in 2009 as Ted was pitching for the Cubs against the Padres. He gave up a couple of bombs to Adrian Gonzalez, but still had a solid night. We had nice seats for the game, and I was happy with several of my pictures. This picture just seemed destined for a card.  (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Miguel Cabrera

This is the same picture as the ’67 Topps card, but I felt that Miguel really needed a couple of more cards on here because of his fantastic accomplishment. I really am in awe of the fact that one man can lead the big three categories. I never thought I would see it. There are just too many good players in the league, and this year Miguel (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – J.J. Hardy

Here is another of my ’89 Upper Deck cards that have just been sitting around. Early in 2010 I attended a White Sox game against the Twins. A group of players were warming up and I just snapped a shot of them. I think that that picture has been made into a couple of cards so far. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Tyler Flowers

I thought since I am a Sox fan I should actually post some cards of my favorite team. I was having so much fun making cards of other teams that I neglected the one that I root for. I took this picture of Tyler in 2009 when he was brought up at the end of the season. He has come with a lot of hype, but yet the veteran catcher is still around. I fear that Tyler is headed for Joel Skinner status in Chicago. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Todd Helton

The day of the Colorado Rockies officially comes to an end with this card of Todd Helton. In 2010 when I was at Wrigley Field to see the Rockies take on the Cubs I was worried that my seat in the bleachers would prevent me from seeing Todd Helton up close. Luckily he came out to the outfield to stand in the box as Jeff Francis was warming up. I loved seeing his stand up close, and it has made a couple of cards.  (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Mark Buehrle

The final card of Mark today is one of my favorites. As luck would have it I came across a free ticket to a Cubs-Sox game in 2009. Of course as per usual Mark was pitching. Being in a National League park though it also meant that Mark would get some at bats. I always thought that Upper Deck really changed things up when they started by showing some things that were out of the norm. I think that Mark running to first with his batting helmet on was a perfect fit for this card. (more…)
