2010 Football – Adam Brockman

adam brockman

This is how far behind I am on this blog. I have some of the 2010 custom football cards that I made that I have never released. This was a set that started as a tribute to the 1985 Topps Football card, and then morphed into what you see above. It was a simple and clean design that allowed me to show off my pictures a bit more. In the end I never really followed through on it, and I only made a handful of cards. (more…)

1984 Topps – Kris Staats

I guess that today I will have a theme of former Slicers on the blog. I thought that since I created a new tab for former Slicers that I should add some cards to the list. I watched Kris as part of a record setting LaPorte Slicer offense in 2005. He then made his mark at Purdue as the holder on field goals. It was nice to see a local kid playing for my Boilers.  (more…)

1985 Topps Famous Lineage – Dan Dierking

I really don’t know how I missed this one for so long. I enjoyed watching Dan play for the Boilers for four years. At first we just enjoyed watching him on the kickoff team seemingly making every tackle. Because of injuries his senior year he had a much bigger role on offense. Of course then the injury bug hit him, and I don’t think he was running on all cylinders as the season ended. Of course who is? He was still fun to watch play, and makes a great addition to the Famous Lineage set. (more…)

1984 Topps – Curtis Painter

I know that Curtis already has a ’84 Topps card, but that was in a Colts uniform. I found this picture of him while making cards for Saturdays game so I thought that I would hold it for today when the former Boiler quarterback makes his first NFL start. (more…)

1984 Topps – Kory Sheets

I really enjoyed watching Kory during his time at Purdue. He provided many great memories during his four year run. This card keeps the countdown going a bit leading up to the 8:00 kickoff against Notre Dame. (more…)

1984 Topps – Dorien Bryant

I was getting pumped up for the Purdue game against Notre Dame game tonight so I thought that I would make a few cards of both teams as sort of a countdown to the 8:00 kickoff. (more…)

1984 Topps – Curtis Painter

I thought that since I had made the template for the Boilers with the intention of making it easy to make cards for multiple teams that I should try it out. This card was a little easier to make than the Purdue card. I have an actual card from 1984 to use to pick out colors. If I had to make this card from scratch I certainly would not have chosen these colors. I like the set overall though so I will stay true to it when possible even if I don’t like the colors they chose then. I may have to make an alternate version of this card eventually though. (more…)

1984 Topps – Ralph Bolden

I thought that I would post a couple football cards on this last Sunday without football. I wanted to try and replicate the ’84 Topps set. Earlier on this site I just altered an existing card to save some time. The design is simple enough that I thought it wouldn’t take too much to do. The hardest part for me though was how to make the card a template that I could use to make other cards. Once I figures that out it was easy to make. Easy that is except for coming up with the Boilers colors. Black and Gold would be used, but where and what shades? I also was struggling with what color to use for the nameplate on the card. In ’84 that plate color had nothing to do with the team colors. Starting from scratch was a challenge, but I like the results. I am sure that a few more of these will show up throughout the season. (more…)

1985 Topps – Rob Henry

I finally have internet access again although it is only a one day deal. I hopefully will be back up and running by tomorrow. I have been gone it seems like forever. In that time one of the highlights of this upcoming football season has now gone away. Rob Henry went down with a torn ACL yesterday in practice. Last season he came out of nowhere to provide a lot of excitement right away. His fleet feet behind center gave Purdue its first road win against a ranked opponent in his first start at Northwestern. I will be sad that he isn’t on the field this season, but I am still excited for the football season that will start in a little over a week. (more…)

1985 Topps (Box Bottom) – Dan Dierking

I had this template for the ’85 Topps football card and thought that I would try and make one of the very red box bottom cards. Maybe I am just over nostalgic, but I like this card as well. It is very red, but does show off the card very well. I don’t know that I will make too many of these, but I might make a couple more of them. (more…)

1985 Topps – Dan Dierking

I made a half-hearted attempt at this card last year before I knew my way around Photoshop. I thought that I would try and update the card to how I remember it. I really like how this card looks, and I may even try a couple with baseball players on them. This is a classic simple design, but for some reason I really like it. I chose Dan Dierking to kick off this set because I really enjoyed watching him play for four years at Purdue. With a little size he would have been a monster. His reckless abandon on kickoff team was fun to watch. (more…)

1989 Pro Set – Ryan Kerrigan

I have made a couple of cards in honor of Ryan Kerrigan getting drafted. He was Purdue’s highest pick since 1987 so I thought that merited a few cards. This last one is modeled after the ’89 Pro Set draft cards. A lot of good names were in the original set so the cards are ingrained in my head. When I thought about doing this I knew that I had to make one. I just took my template from the Packer cards I have been making, and altered it a bit. I took the #1 pick section from a Troy Aikman card. This was a rush job so I left the Pro Set name on the card there. (more…)

1990 Pro Set Draft Pick – Ryan Kerrigan

Since Ryan was the highest draft pick since Rod Woodson in 1987 I thought that I would make a few cards of him. This one is a tribute to the ’90 Pro Set card. Unlike most of the football cards I have done so far I made this one from scratch. The design was so simple that it was probably easier than altering an actual card. I changed it up a little to reflect the fact that Ryan was a draft pick this year as well. Overall I think the card did not turn out too bad. (more…)

1990 Score Rookie – Ryan Kerrigan

Since Ryan was drafted 16th last night by the Redskins I thought I would make a couple of cards for him. For some reason the only time I make football cards is when something big happens. When the Packers were in and won the Super Bowl I made a bunch of cards some of which have not been released yet. I may make a few of the Purdue players that I have watched as they find pro teams over the next few days. (more…)

Dan Dierking

Since football is right around the corner I thought that I would do a preview set featuring some Boilermakers and a few other football players that I like to watch. I have an idea for a football card design, but for now enjoy the preview set. The first of those is Dan Dierking. Dan is one of those guys that you have to love if he is on your team. He scored a touchdown on his first ever play from scrimmage in mop up time as a freshman. For the past three years he has also been a beast on kick off teams. For some reason he is always around the ball carrier. (more…)
