1985 Topps – Famous Lineage Sandy Alomar

85 topps famous lineage sandy and robby

Sandy has always been a favorite player of mine. That might be why I have included him twice in this set. I always liked the father and son set that Topps put out in 1985. I wanted to re-create it, but also to make it a little broader. With that in mind I was now able to make a card like this that showed Sandy next to his Hall of Fame brother Robby.  (more…)

1988 Topps – Rocky Gale

So many cards to post and so little time to do it. I made this card back in May, and still have not gotten around to posting it. It is the last of my ’88 Topps cards for the Fort Wayne Tincaps. I made these cards for the backs of my 2011 csd Custom cards. (more…)

2011 csd All Star Glossy – Jake Blackwood

Jake is yet another player that had a great game when I saw him play, and then went on to make the Midwest League All Star game. He came up just short of the cycle, and led Fort Wayne to the victory in game one of a doubleheader. He really had a great game, but could not back it up in the nightcap. (more…)

2011 csd All Star Glossy – Matt Jackson

As I have said on this blog a couple of times I went to a doubleheader in South Bend to watch one player for the Tincaps when Matt Jackson had the great start. Matt really dealt the game I saw him pitch, and apparently he kept it going throughout the first half to earn his All Star selection. (more…)

1988 Topps – Matt Jackson

Matt pitched game two of a doubleheader that I saw earlier this season. He was not the pitcher that I was looking forward to seeing, but he had the better game of the two by far. As with Adam Dominick he warmed up right in front of me giving me a great view to get a couple of pictures from. (more…)

1988 Topps – Adam Dominick

It has been a few weeks since I had a Minor League Monday segment on this site. Today seems like a good day to bring it back. I would like to post some of these cards that have just been sitting in a folder since April. Let’s see how many I can get through. (more…)

1985 Topps Famous Lineage – Jason Kendall

Before making some cards for Father’s Day I had no idea that Jason’s father played in the bigs. I saw his name on the Baseball Almanac list so I knew that I had to make a card for him. I have always enjoyed watching Jason play so it was great to make this card for him. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Kyle Gaedele (MLB Draft)

Kyle has had a few cards on this site already. It started off with him being the famous great nephew of Eddie Gaedel. After watching him a bit I knew that he would make the next step when it was time. He is only a junior, but when San Diego drafted him 203rd overall they might have just ended his career at Valpo. This is the second card already for Kyle in this set. If he ends up playing for the Fort Wayne Tincaps in the Midwest League I could possibly have three cards of him in the set. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Matt Branham

One of the players on the Tincaps when I saw them that was high on their prospect list was Matt Branham. Guessing who will make it big at this stage is hard to due. A few players come along who scream future star, but others you just have to wait on. Matt may be one of those who we have to wait on. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Emmanuel Quiles

Emmanuel is the backup catcher in Fort Wayne for the Tincaps. I was able to watch him a bit during both games at the Cove earlier this season. I don’t normally put the backup position players in this set. That is really true for the Midwest League. When it comes to catchers though the rules change a bit. (more…)

1988 Topps – Matt Branham

When going to see the Tincaps play in South Bend I knew that there were a few good Padres prospects on that team. The two big named outfielders were not playing. One of the pitchers though was throwing in game one. That was Matt Branham. Out of the two pitchers to go that day Matt had the worse day, but he is still thought highly off in their organization. (more…)

1988 Topps – Emmanuel Quiles

Emmanuel will probably never make the Major Leagues. He has been knocking around the minors, and has not moved above the single A level. In the true spirit of this blog though if he caught a game I will make a card of him. This card was made so that I had something to put on the back of my 2011 custom card. I used the ’88 Topps design for all of the Tincap players. It was my newest design at the time so I made it work. It also has the Tincap colors on it. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Jake Blackwood

Jake is a fine young player that had a great game when his team came into town. That does not guarantee future success, but it does put him on my radar. Before a team comes into South Bend I look up the prospects for the organization to see who I should watch for. Jake was not on any of those lists for Fort Wayne. In fact not one position player in the top 30 in the organization is currently on their roster. In warmups though I thought Jake looked like a ballplayer. (more…)

1988 Topps – Jake Blackwood

Jake had a monster game in a losing effort against the Silverhawks in game one of a doubleheader. He started off with a home run, and added a double and a triple before it was all over. He did well in his only three trips to the plate, and I was left to wonder if he could have hit for the cycle if the full nine innings were played. (more…)

1986 Topps – Craig Cooper

Here is the second of two card I made of former Midwest League player Craig Cooper. After taking a few pictures of him at Notre Dame I found out that he had a very photogenic swing. It was a big swing that I saw again last year with Andruw Jones. I also wanted to make a couple cards of the old Fort Wayne Wizards. They have since changed their name to the Fort Wayne TinCaps. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Brad Hawpe

This card reminds me of a 1981 Donruss card. They had no problem with making a team card of a player with a picture on it with another team. I wanted to have all the teams that I could represented in this set so I had to cheat a bit. I have not even come close to anything resembling passable airbrushing yet. If you want to see a player with a cartoon shirt I am the guy to call. (more…)

1987 Topps – Craig Cooper

Get ready folks today is  1987 Topps day. I had a few sitting in a folder after I made them during the snowpocolypse. Releasing a few here and there would never get them all out. I thought that I would just post a bunch of them today to get them out there finally. What better way to start it out than with a minor league player on a team that does not exist anymore. The Fort Wayne Wizards became the Fort Wayne Tincaps prior to the 2009 season. Before that they were the Wizards. I guess they didn’t want to take the old name into the new ballpark. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Trevor Hoffman

I thought that since one of the best closers ever is going to retire that is no reason why he can’t have a card in this set. I took this picture in 2007 when I saw the Padres playing the Cubs. I knew that Trevor was good, but at the time I had no idea that the picture would end up on a card. I decided that since he doesn’t have a team that it wouldn’t matter that I made a Padres card for him. One of my all-time favorite cards was the 1989 Fleer card of Mike Schmidt where they honor his career. For some reason I have always liked that. I thought that a card showing him on the team where he did the most damage was the best course of action. If you notice I did change one thing on the front. Instead of a dash in between the players name and position I placed a diamond there. I thought that it looked good as well as being the surface that the game is played on. (more…)

1987 Topps – Trevor Hoffman

I like this card a little better than the other one I did tonight for Trevor. This is the classic 1987 Topps style with of course a new picture on it. I think that I might be one of the only people who still like this set. It is just a classic. (more…)

1986 Fleer Baeball’s Best – Trevor Hoffman

With the news today that Trevor is retiring I thought that I would make a couple cards of him. This one was probably done a little too quick. It is from the 1986 Fleer Basball’s Best subset. The original card had Goose Gossage on it in a Padre uniform so I thought it was only fitting to put Trevor in his place. (more…)

Jon Galvez

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Jon Galvez. He was a hot Padre prospect in 2008 who is still playing in low A ball. I would have to guess that Jon may be near the end of his time in the organization. (more…)
