1989 Upper Deck – Mark Buehrle

The final card of Mark today is one of my favorites. As luck would have it I came across a free ticket to a Cubs-Sox game in 2009. Of course as per usual Mark was pitching. Being in a National League park though it also meant that Mark would get some at bats. I always thought that Upper Deck really changed things up when they started by showing some things that were out of the norm. I think that Mark running to first with his batting helmet on was a perfect fit for this card. (more…)

1982 Topps In Action – Mark Buehrle

This is a card that I have had made for quite some time. I like how it looks for the most part, but was waiting to make a regular issue ’82 Topps card to release it. I have learned quite a bit since making the card, but I still like how it looks. The card will now see the light of day as part of the Mark Buehrle day on this blog today.  (more…)

1984 Fleer – Mark Buehrle

Today I thought I would get rid of the rest of the Buehrle cards that are sitting in my completed folder. I have not made a card for a while, but I have so many sitting around that this blog could go on for a while if I never made another card. With Mark Buehrle leaving the White Sox I thought that I would put out the rest of my completed cards of one of my favorite players. I am sure that I will try and see Mark pitch next season to get a couple new cards of him in a Marlins uniform.  (more…)

1987 Topps – Mark Buehrle

The hardest news of the off season was that Mark Buehrle would not be coming back to the White Sox next year. Early on you knew that it was the case, but you kept thinking that maybe another ‘all in’ miracle would happen like last year. It did not, and Mark went to play with Ozzie in Florida. I quit watching baseball after the strike in ’94. When I came back to the game Mark was a young pitcher for the White Sox. His love of the game quickly made him a favorite of mine. He is now on another team, but I think that he will forever be remembered as a member of the White Sox. Will he end up bronzed in the outfield? I struggle with that question. If he is I will be there though. (more…)

1983 Topps – Mark Buehrle

I have really enjoyed looking at the ’83 Topps cards over at A Hair Off Square. I asked him if I could borrow his ’83 Topps black template and he obliged. For some reason I cannot make a good one, and he had one that he was already using. I thought that I would make a card with it tonight since it is raining outside. (more…)

2011 csd Custom Opening Day – Mark Buehrle

Now only a few months late is another of my Opening Day cards. I liked the idea of this set, but I had way too much going on to give it the attention that it deserved. So instead of it going out when it should have I think the cards will just trickle in as I continue to make them. (more…)

1977 Topps – Mark Buehrle

I have put out a few ’87 Topps cards lately so I thought that I would go back ten years, and post a ’77 Topps card. For some reason I really like this card. Maybe because it is so easy to put my picture on them and complete the process. I don’t know why, but this is a great card. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Jason Heyward

What player could have rivaled Griffey in hype since his 1989 rookie card? I was have to say Jason Heyward would be up there. Strasburg had the hype, but was hurt too quickly for it to build. Heyward started strong, made the all star team, and then helped his team make the playoffs. He was listed as the #1 prospect in baseball prior to the season, and showed us why. (more…)

1988 Score – Jose Contreras

Here is yet another former Sox player on the ’88 Score card. I was never as big of  a fan of Jose as I should have been until he was sent down to Charlotte in 2009. I am a big Mark Buehrle fan so I was always upset that Jose was getting more of the prime starts than Mark. Of course Jose deserved them, but that doesn’t matter when you are a fan. I met Jose when he was playing for Charlotte, and he actually initiated the conversation. He pointed at my ball and asked me if I wanted his autograph. I had me back to him initially, but he must have assumed we were all waiting for him. He was so cool that I hoped he would make it back up to the big club soon. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Mark Buehrle

The White Sox have announced that Mark Buehrle will be the Opening Day starter for the ninth time in his career. Many have said that the season John Danks had last year gave him the right to be the Opening Day starter. Mark has done so much for the organization though that it seems as if until he is gone the job should be his. I thought that with the news it was time to release his preview card for the 2011 set. (more…)

1986 Donruss – Mark Buehrle

This is the card that has given me the most trouble so far. For some reason I have never really been able to get the angled type to look right. This time it does not look so bad. I still think I have a little work to do, but in order to keep this countdown going I will post this card. Donruss really tried to get a little fancy starting in 1986. They came a long way since the ’81 card that was simple. This is not a complex design, but it was a step in the right direction. (more…)

1985 Topps – Mark Buehrle (Black)

Since I am changing the 1985 Topps card a little I thoguht that I would update it to be a bit more modern. I changed the colors to the current team colors, and added a newer logo. I really like how this card turned out. I still like the old design, but I might have to make a few with this design as well. (more…)

1985 Topps – Mark Buehrle (25th Anniversary Edition)

I was thinking about what a great year last season was for me watching baseball. It was the 25th anniversary of my first baseball game. I went to a lot of games, and filled most of my wishlist for the season. I even went to three Sox games in five days around my birthday. That just happened to coincide with the date of my first game. I thought that I would make a small subset to commemorate that great weekend last season. I remade the Sox template a little from 1985. It is close enough to 1985 that I will file it under that year, but I made a few changes. I replaced the Sox logo with the patch that the team wore that season. I also narrowed the borders a bit, and it is amazing how much it changed the card. I like how it looked so I kept the change. I plan on making 25 of these cards for a small subset. This is the first of those cards. (more…)

1984 Topps – Mark Buehrle

One of the hardest sets for me to make so far has been this one. The card is simple, but trying to get the team name to look good was the hardest part. I ended up just doing a little cut and paste of the text and placing it on my card that I had made. I don’t think the card turned out badly. I love the set and would love to make more of them. The one problem is that you have to have a close up of the player for the box in the lower left hand corner. I have a couple more of these waiting around, but I need more headshots before I can get any more made. I guess I have a goal for this season. (more…)
