1915 Cracker Jack – Derek Jeter

Last winter I tried to make some older cards. This is one of those that I tried. I made a Paul Konerko version and this one at the same time. I realized that I really needed to do some tweaking on this one, but thought that since this is how I made it then it should get released that way. I like the idea of the set, and will work on this one a little before putting another one out. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Curtis Granderson

Curtis is one of the good guys in baseball. I have seen him play a few times, and he always seems to enjoy what he is doing. He even takes the time to interact with the fans. He is another guy who just seems to ‘get it.’ (more…)

2011 csd Preview – A.J. Burnett

A.J. is someone that I may have had a misconception about before this post. I thought that he was always on the DL, but looking at his stats I can see that is not always the case. I guess his missing the 2003 has just stuck in my mind for some reason. He is a very good pitcher that continues to baffle hitters in New York. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Brett Gardner

Brett made this set because of his great story. He was not picked by the coach at the walk on tryouts at the College of Charleston. He came the next day in his high school uniform refusing to be told no. The coach let him practice with the team, and he eventually started for three seasons. The fact that he was not even thought of as a walk on while at a small school makes the fact that he made the big leagues that much better. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Boone Logan

I have always enjoyed players with interesting names. One of those is Boone Logan. He just sounds like he should be in our history books on the frontier. He is another former Sox player that makes the set for that reason. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Francisco Cervelli

I saw Cervelli last season when the Yankees were in Chicago. He is a talented young catcher that is sitting right now on the depth chart behind Russell Martin and Jorge Posada. The Yankees might have the most depth at catcher right now. With Posada aging Cervelli was scheduled to be the backup to Martin coming into the season. Of course things change quickly, and a foot injury has put Cervelli behind this spring. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Ivan Nova

As it says on the back of the card I had never heard of Ivan before he pitched against the White Sox last August. After the game though I knew a lot more about him than I would have liked. He pitched a very good game against them, and may have a spot in the rotation this season. (more…)

1985 Topps – Casey Stengel

I loved this statue when we were touring the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Something about it was just very cool. I decided that I should make a card out of it. This was originally part of the short print set I was making. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Nick Swisher

It has been a while since I have seen a player go from being so loved to hated in Chicago. When he came to the Sox Nick Swisher was a fun loving guy that the fans seemed to enjoy to interact with. When he did not get the playing time he thought he should have had things started to change. He really does seem to enjoy playing the game though, and I am sorry that things didn’t work out for him in Chicago. (more…)

1988 Score – Andrew Sisco

In 2007 Andrew was a promising young arm in the White Sox pen. I immediately liked him because he was from my favorite ski town of Steamboat Springs. That is also where my brother met his wife. He was a 6’10” fireballer who made the team out of spring training. He came to the Sox for Ross Gload, but never seemed to get it going, and was released after an injury. He is currently in the Yankees organization trying to make it back to the bigs. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Curtis Granderson

This might be my favorite preview card so far. Last year on Frank Thomas day at the Cell I had some great seats behind the plate. I was a little more to the Yankees side of the dugout so I thought I would get some great on deck pictures. Guys like Jeter hid behind the screen, but Curtis really interacted with the fans behind him. I have never seen that out of a player to that extent. He was fun to watch for sure. I took this picture of him as he was warming up along with a couple more. I really gained a lot of respect for Curtis that day, and he is now one of my favorite players even if he is a Yankee. One visual note about the card. I darkened the sidebar a little bit. On the Andruw Jones card that I threw together I thought it was a little too light. I took one of the colors off of the logo to make it look a little better. Another thing that I like about this card is the fact that you can really read the patch the team wore for Bob Shepard. Things like that I try to include on pictures because they add some context of time to them. I just really like the picture can’t you tell? (more…)

1991 Fleer – Derek Jeter

Part of my thinking when I started this site was that I would never have any cards older than 1990. I wanted to keep it to cards that I collected with the occasional older card thrown in. By 1991 I was almost completely out of the hobby. I had other things occupying my time. For some reason I have always liked the design, and one of the first things I did when I got back into the hobby was to get the White Sox team set for the 1991 Fleer. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Frank Thomas Day

I came up with this idea a while back, but did not know how I wanted to implement it. I thought that for the preview set I would try and make a couple of these cards to try my idea out. I went to quite a few baseball games last year. I thought for this years set I would make a card for each game that I go to. I liked the idea of having it appear to be a newspaper on the front. I wanted a headline and a picture that told some part of the story of the game. What started then I was just going to have garble on the side. I ended up writing a small bit about the game on the side. I like how this turned out, and this might be the design I use for the games I attend in 2011. (more…)
