1985 Topps Famous Lineage – Kevin Eichhorn
Kevin is the second card in the revamped Famous Lineage series. This is actually the reason I resurrected the set. I see a few kids every year in the minors who are relation to former ballplayers. Most are sons of the former players, but in order to get all the players in the set I changed the name to Famous Lineage. (more…)
2011 csd Custom – Ben Olglivie
Part of the fun of going to these minor league games is seeing some stars from the past on the field. I remember Ben as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers. He played for much of the 80’s as a member of their team. I really thought that he played longer than he did before looking him up for this card, but he did have a lengthy career. (more…)
1989 Upper Deck – Curtis Granderson
Curtis is one of the good guys in baseball. I have seen him play a few times, and he always seems to enjoy what he is doing. He even takes the time to interact with the fans. He is another guy who just seems to ‘get it.’ (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Austin Jackson
Austin is a very good young outfielder for the Tigers. He was so good in fact that the Tigers traded away a local favorite Curtis Granderson. I tried something new on this card. I added an outline around the number on the card. I really like how it looks, and I think that the real set will have it. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Brennan Boesch
Brennan came up to the Tigers last April because of an injury, and never looked back. He hit a double off the first pitch he ever saw in the majors. He kept it going to become the rookie of the month in May and June. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Jose Valverde
Jose is in the preview set because of his pitching style. He is a hard thrower with a great delivery. I also love his nickname of Papa Grande. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Max Scherzer
I saw Max pitch this past Labor Day while I was in Detroit. I was going to post this the other day, but he was bombed so I decided to hold it back. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Max St. Pierre
This is yet another shining example of a card that got into the set purely because of the picture. I like catchers to anytime I can work one in is another bonus. Normally I would not have a player with the number #63 in the set, but I guess it is my set so what the heck? (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Brandon Inge
For some reason I have always liked Brandon. He is just one of those scrappy players that you always seem to root for. The only time that I have been on the field at the Cell we walked past the opposing teams dugout as a mob wearing mullet wigs (most of the people anyway). Inge was getting ready to get interviewed, and he actually made a point to interact with a few of the weird looking people walking by. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Don Kelly
Don is one of the few players that I have seen play at multiple levels. I saw him play for the West Michigan Whitecaps in the Midwest League. I then saw him play for the Toledo Mud Hens eight years later. Last year I saw him play for the Tigers in Detroit. The crazy thing is how long in between me seeing him in single A and triple A ball. He really has had a crazy career. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Will Ryhmes
Will was one of the players that I saw went I went to a few Toledo Mud Hen games in 2009. I met him during a team autograph session, and he seemed like the nicest guy in the world. I don’t know if players realize it, but that sticks with a fan. Even a fan of a division rival. For that reason Will makes the preview set. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Miguel Cabrera
Miguel has been in the news for all the wrong reasons so far this season. As I said on the back of this card I would bet that he can’t wait until the season starts so that he can let his bat do the talking. He is one of the elite players in the league so we should be talking about his play. (more…)
1989 Upper Deck – Magglio Ordonez
The dump of the sideways cards continues with this card of Magglio Ordonez. Mags was one of my favorite guys to watch when he played for the Sox. I was sad to see him go when he injured his knee. I hoped that he would recover, but it is hard to root for a guy who plays in your division. (more…)
1984 Topps – Miguel Cabrera
I like the idea of coming up with sets for the World Champs. In 1984 the Tigers took home the hardware. I had the 1986 Mets card earlier in the day so I thought I would post a 1984 Topps card of a Tiger player. Miguel Cabrera is one of the best players in the league. He is a feared hitter that has been dominant almost from day one in the bigs. (more…)
2011 csd Custom Preview – Johnny Damon
Since I am snowed in I really had nothing better to do than to create another card for the preview set. As I am making different teams for the set I am liking the design more and more. I will have to find a picture that would look better horizontal so that I can try that design out. The picture on the front of the card was taken late in the game on Labor Day last season. I chose the picture for two reasons. One is that Damon appears to be looking right at me. The second is that A.J. appears in the picture. I always liked cards with my favorite players on them as secondary players. (more…)
