1991 Fleer – Tyler Colvin

This was a fun card to make. I really only owned a couple of the real cards, but for some reason I liked how this one turned out. Tyler is one of the players on the Cubs that I actually liked. I was sad to see him struck by the bat, and was actually rooting for him to get back to the form that I thought that he could show. The Cubs gave up on him though and sent him to Colorado. I hope that he can find some of that form again.  (more…)

1993 Donruss – Aramis Ramirez

I have had this card made for a while, but have not released it yet. Like most cards I make it came in a card making spurt, and if they don’t get posted right away I tend to forget about them. I want to post my new creations first. To me this card is cool because it represents the first year in many that I did not pick up any cards. I had so many other things going on that the hobby kind of fell away from me. I still don’t collect many actual cards, but getting to know the designs of the cards during the period that I did not collect (1993-2002) has actually been pretty fun. (more…)

2011 csd All Star Glossy – Starlin Castro

I really don’t have near enough Cubs cards for the amount of pictures I have for the team. I am sure that this is something that will change over the winter. One player that I enjoy making cards of is Starlin Castro. He is really an up and comer that I think is just scratching the surface of what he can do. If that is true then Cubs fans have something special to watch over the next few years. (more…)

1991 Fleer – Starlin Castro

Starlin is one of the young bright spots on the Cubs right now. He had a great debut that put huge expectations on him. He is still young though so he has some days that are not so great as well. Time will tell what kind of player he will end up being, but right now he looks like he will be very good. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Jeff Samardzija

As I alluded to earlier I made the 2011 card of Jeff Samardzija today. This is the first Cubs card for the 2011 set. I have included some of the changes that I decided on at the end of the preview process. I have changed the numbers so that they are outlined. I love how they look that way. The only problem with doing that was that it made the diamond that separated the name and position look odd. I just took that out. I like this card this way because it makes the number stand out a little more. (more…)

1985 Topps – Jeff Samardzija

I already had two cards from last years set with Jeff on them. I really faked an Iowa Cubs card, and I had a ‘short print’ Notre Dame card for him. I saw him pitch many times as a member of the Irish, and was lucky enough to finally see him pitch for the Cubs earlier this season. Since he picked up his first win of the season today I thought that I would post this card of him. Of course I could also be posting this so that I can post his 2011 csd Custom card. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Sean Marshall

Sean will be very important for the Cubs this season. They need some arms to get to Carlos Marmol, and Sean is a lefty that can fill that role. Sean is one of those players that is fun to photograph. He has a very nice pitching motion that looks good when photographed. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Randy Wells (w/Vince Vaughn)

I have had the front of this card made for some time, but was struggling to get the motivation to make the back. I can already see an issue during the season of getting the front and backs made. I am sure that at some point I will just give up on the backs. The front of the card is easy. I just put my picture on it and change the name, position, and number. The back requires a little more work which sometimes I am not in the mood for. I love how it looks, but snapping my fingers doesn’t always get it done. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Marlon Byrd

It has been a few days since I have posted any of my own cards. I just keep posting cards that I have copied from other companies. Now I will get back to to my own stuff for a couple of posts. The picture on the front of this card was taken in May when I saw the Cubs for the first time last season. Marlon was on his way to becoming one of the bright spots of the team with his bat. I liked this picture of him fielding so I placed it on the card. (more…)

1985 Donruss – Hak-Ju Lee

I thought I would try my hand at picking some prospects much like the companies did in the mid 80’s. Some players in the Rated Rookie group did very well, while others were never heard from again. I always liked the rated rookie cards so it wouldn’t surprise me to see a few of them end up on this site. The first is of a player that I saw play this past summer. Hak-Ju Lee is an up and coming shortstop in the Rays organization. His skills are supposedly better than the current shortstop Starlin Castro. If that is the case he will be a good one. He was traded to the Rays this past off season in the Matt Garza deal. I guess the Cubs are feeling good about Castro to trade away one of their best prospects. (more…)

2011 csd preview – Alfonso Soriano

Alfonso is a hard guy for me to get a handle on. Sometimes he looks like he can do nothing wrong. Other times he takes some mental time off. During a Cubs-Cardinals game this past year he missed an entire at bat while in the field watching a fight in the stands. I know because I missed the at bat as well watching him. He never even glanced at the plate. I guess he might be good enough to go off the crack of the bat, but I doubt it. It looks to me like he dogs some plays. Of course just when Cubs fans counted him out last year he really started playing well. (more…)
