1989 Upper Deck – Todd Helton

The day of the Colorado Rockies officially comes to an end with this card of Todd Helton. In 2010 when I was at Wrigley Field to see the Rockies take on the Cubs I was worried that my seat in the bleachers would prevent me from seeing Todd Helton up close. Luckily he came out to the outfield to stand in the box as Jeff Francis was warming up. I loved seeing his stand up close, and it has made a couple of cards.  (more…)

1988 Donruss – Miguel Olivo

Here is yet another card of Miguel. Today’s theme is the Colorado Rockies on the blog, and I thought that this card was a good continuation of that theme. I love these cards because of course the Rockies were not in existence in 1988 so it is interesting to see what might have been. I took this picture in 2010 as Miguel was warming up the pitcher prior to a game against the Cubs.  (more…)

1987 Topps – Miguel Olivo

I have enjoyed watching Miguel play since he came up with the White Sox. For some reason in the short time he played on the southside he seemed to love playing the Cubs. Since then he has played for quite a few teams. This picture was taken in 2010 as Olivo was warming up against the Cubs as a member of the Rockies. Keeping with the theme of posting cards of a team a day I thought that today would be a good day to post some Rockies cards. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Ross Stripling (MLB Draft Pick)

I saw Ross play last year when I was in Texas following the Boiler basketball team. I liked his delivery so I took a couple pictures of him while watching him play against Missouri. When his name came up in the draft today I knew that I had a picture to make a draft card of him. I thought I would have a few more players in this subset then I currently have. I have had to stretch a bit to make good with the players that I have seen so far. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Carlos Gonzalez

Last season when I saw Carlos play in early may I really did not know too much about him. After that game I quickly started to see that he was one of the best in the National League. He was paired with Paul Konerko for a dual run for the extra man vote for the All Star game. He had a great season, and the Rockies are expecting big things from him in the future. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Miguel Olivo

I have been a fan of Miguel’s ever since he was a member of the White Sox. His grand slam against the Cubs is still ingrained in my mind. Miguel has since played for several teams. I have seen him on a couple of those. He is a solid catcher, and it seems teams recognize that as he is never without work. He has signed on to play with the Mariners this season going back to a former team. I may have to go and see a game or two when they come to town. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Ubaldo Jimenez

Last season when the Rockies came to Chicago in May Ubaldo had recently thrown a no-hitter. He ended up having a great first half of the season on his way to starting the All Star game. He was the pitcher of the month in both April and May. So you can see that he was hot when his team came to town. Sadly I watched Aaron Cook pitch that day. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Todd Helton

The next card in the preview set is of Todd Helton. I created this set so that I could work out the kinks in the set as I was making the cards. This is kind of like an Opening Day set except the actual set will contain different pictures. This card is a perfect example of the evolution of a design. Since I have started I realized the number in the lower corner was too big. I have shrunk that over time. The dash in between the player name and position has been replaced with a diamond. The diamond has even evolved over time into a perfect diamond. This card changed a little as I decided to add some color to it. The one underused color in the Rockies scheme has been purple for the most part. They really like to use the black instead. I was no different. I originally had a black border with purple lettering. You couldn’t read that so I changed the lettering to White. That part of the card looked a lot like a White Sox card. I ended up just going all out with the purple, and I think it looks good. I am really happy with how this card turned out. (more…)

1985 Topps – Esmil Rodgers

I thought I would try and get rid of the last few cards from the 2010 set over the next few days. I won’t do another dump, but I will try to have this set done before the start of the 2011 season. I have finally solved the problem of getting these cards labeled under 1985 Topps. Instead of changing the name on the sidebar to ’85 Topps I just made the current label of 2010 Baseball Custom go under the 1985 Topps category. That way they can both be clicked on to see the cards. I think this worked out better than changing the name would have. (more…)

1987 Topps – Todd Helton

The second card in the ’87 Topps saturation is of Todd Helton. Todd has been a cornerstone at first base for the Rockies for a long time. He has a great bat, and has flirted with .400 a couple of times during the season. He is now on the downside of his career, but is still a solid option at first. (more…)
