1993 Donruss – Ozzie Guillen

This is kind of a weird card for me to make for two reasons. One of those is that Ozzie was in this set as a player. I usually don’t make cards like this, but I felt the need to make the card. The second reason is that Ozzie is no longer the manager of the Chicago White Sox. Ozzie came in and took the Sox to the next level. He won the World Series in just his second year at the helm of the team. He has never been able to re-create that success though, and that might be a partial reason as to why he was fired. As a Sox fan I am torn today. I realize that something had to happen. That being said I am excited to see how the Sox will go from here. Of course I am also sad to see the skipper go. (more…)

1977 Topps – Ted Lilly

I was going to post this card yesterday, but I was very busy. I really forgot about posting on here until this morning. I thought it would have been neat to post a card of Ted on his return to Chicago, but it will have to be the day after. I like this ’77 Topps set. I am sure that plenty more of these will show up. (more…)

Bronzed Heroes – Joe DiMaggio

Seventy years ago today Joe D started his 56 game hitting streak. With that in mind I thought that today would be a great day to release the bronzed heroes card of the Yankee Clipper. I have a few pictures sitting in a folder just waiting to be made into these cards. The beauty of the design is the fact that the cards can be made very quickly. (more…)

2011 csd Custom – Mark Grace

Mark was a fan favorite of Cub fans for many years. He was a very good first baseman during a fairly successful run for the team. He finished his career in Arizona where he now works as a color man for their TV broadcasts. At first I tried to decide which team to make this card for. Mark is probably most well known for his time in Chicago, but he now works for Arizona. Since he was in Chicago at Wrigley singing the seventh inning stretch I chose the Cubs. (more…)

2011 csd Opening Day – John Danks

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be in Cleveland to see the Sox open the season against the Indians. A while back I had decided to try an Opening Day mini set using only pictures taken on Opening Day. Of course I just thought that it would be the Sox Opening Day in Chicago. Here is the first of those cards. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Jamie Moyer

Even though he is not on the Phillies I made this card of Jamie anyway. I wanted to make a card of him, and since he does not currently have a team using his last team seemed to be the way to go. Jamie is sitting out this season, but will attempt a comeback next season at the age of 49. (more…)

1985 Topps – Harry Caray

Harry was also going to be part of the announcer day that I had planned for the set. The former Sox and Cub announcer is a Chicago icon. I am not sure how long it will be before he loses steam in Chicago. At some point the younger fans won’t have lived through his broadcasts to know how entertaining he could be. (more…)

1988 Donruss – Bobby Jenks

The most loved man in Chicago is the final card of the night. Bobby has brought some hatred onto himself during this off season by going after the team that gave him his chance. This feud is supposedly over, but somehow I get the feeling we haven’t heard the last of this. (more…)

1981 Donruss – A.J. Pierzynski

I thought I would keep up the trend of new cards with this one of A.J. I had not even thought about doing a 1981 Donruss card until last night. As I was watching MLB Network I was thinking about how these cards were made 30 years ago. I thought that I would give it a try. After having some success cropping around the White Sox name on the ’78 Topps card I thought that this wouldn’t be too bad. The only thing that I don’t like about the design is my logo in the corner. I wanted to stay with the script look that I have been using, but it doesn’t seem to fit the card. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Kerry Wood

This off season Cub fans got a surprise when Kerry Wood signed for less money to come back to Chicago. The popular Cub signed a one year deal to pitch for the North Side again. I used an old picture of Kerry for this card. It was taken in 2003 four cameras ago before a Tampa Bay game. The picture is so old that the team was called the Devil Rays before they had their team exorcism. The cool part about the picture is that Kerry is signing an autograph for my buddy Rob. I never would have guessed that I would put this picture on a card eight years later. (more…)

1985 Fleer Mark Kotsay

Since he probably won’t be back next season I thought that I would post this card of Mark Kotsay. I made a few cards with some players that were probably leaving or not on the team earlier in the year just to try out some different card sets. This one of Kotsay is from that time period. (more…)
