2011 csd All Star Glossy – Chipper Jones

Chipper was selected to his 7th all star game this year, but will not play because of an injury. I have always enjoyed watching Chipper play throughout his career. I would like to see him get a run going of time played without an injury. You can see that he wants to go out playing well, and his body is just not letting him. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Rafael Furcal

Rafael has a great story so I thought he should make this set. When Walt Weiss was injured in 2000 Furcal was named his replacement with the Braves. What made that jump so improbable was the fact that Furcal was a single A shortstop at the time. He now plays for the Dodgers, and injury has kept him from playing up to his ability the past few seasons. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Brian McCann

Sitting here watching some baseball at lunch I saw that Brian MCann has driven in the first run of the season. Since I have yet to release his 2011 preview card I thought I would do it now. He is an All Star catcher who really is one of the best in baseball. With that RBI in his first at bat he gets off to a solid start. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Brent Lillibridge

One player who is trying very hard to make the team is Brent Lillibridge. He is out of options so that makes the choice much tougher whether or not to try and send him down. He came over from the Braves a couple of years ago along with Tyler Flowers. He has never really caught on with the Sox. He has played well enough to earn a spot on the roster this season though. The only bad part about that is that Lastings Milledge has played even better. Ozzie will have a tough decision ahead of him in the next couple of days. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Martin Prado

Not often do you see a player have an all star season, and then get switched to an entirely different position. Martin is being switched to the outfield this season after the Braves signed Dan Uggla this past off season. The Braves lineup really looks good if everyone performs to their ability. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Tommy Hanson

Tommy was once regarded as the top prospect in the Braves organization before Jason Heyward was. In 2009 has was a top prospect. Now he is trying to establish himself in the majors. Looking through his bio I was surprised to see that he gave up a home run to Ryan Braun for the first hit off of him. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Tim Hudson

Here is yet another reason why I like the design of this set. I can turn the picture without losing anything on the card. When I made my set based on the 1985 Topps set last year I was limited to what pictures I could use. This year I can add a few more. I liked this picture of Tim for the set, but it would have looked awkward last season. (more…)

2011 csd Preview – Jason Heyward

Jason is one player that many people will be watching this season. After a very good rookie season he will be expected to do the same again this year. He came into the league with a lot of fanfare being ranked as the #1 overall prospect before the season started. Hitting a home run in your first at bat will do nothing but raise those expectations. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Jason Heyward

What player could have rivaled Griffey in hype since his 1989 rookie card? I was have to say Jason Heyward would be up there. Strasburg had the hype, but was hurt too quickly for it to build. Heyward started strong, made the all star team, and then helped his team make the playoffs. He was listed as the #1 prospect in baseball prior to the season, and showed us why. (more…)

1988 Donruss – Jason Heyward

The final ’88 Donruss card of the day is of the J-Hey-Kid Jason Heyward. I don’t know that any rookie had the hype that Jason had last season. He was the #1 prospect coming into the season. He backed that up by hitting a 475 ft. home run in his first at bat off Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano. He was elected to the All Star game as a rookie, and really had a fine season. (more…)
