2011 csd Custom – Wes Long
Wes was a player that was probably not going to make this site. I had never heard of him before, and he was playing for a team in the American Association. I was lucky enough to snap a couple cool pictures of him so he made this set. (more…)
1985 Topps Famous Lineage – Wally Backman Jr.
I have seen Wally play Independent ball a couple of times now. The first time was for the Joliet Jackhammers with his father as the manager. Most recently I saw him play for the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association. I always liked Wally so it was a given that I would get this card into the set. Father’s day seemed like a great day to roll some of these cards out. (more…)
2011 csd Custom – Derrick Gordon
As I said in the previous post I have seen Derrick pitch three times in this young season. Now that he is traded I have a shot at seeing someone new on the mound. He had a style of pitching that really seemed to work well on film. I guess I will have to find someone else to shoot as the season goes on. (more…)
2011 csd Custom – Louis Ott
This will be the first of probably two cards in this set for Louis. I saw him play in an exhibition game for the Railcats before this season started. During the first series of the season on the road he was traded to Winnipeg. The Goldeyes had a need for a third baseman after Amos Ramon (who is already in the set) went down with an injury. As I said in the previous post Louis is very versatile, and can play any position in the field. He will be missed in Gary. As I said to start this off I will probably make two cards of Louis in this set. When he comes back to Gary as a Goldeye I will have to get a picture of him to put in the set. (more…)
2011 csd Custom – Cody McMorris
As I said on the previous card Cody was traded today as part of the roster cuts that brought the Gary Railcats roster to 23 players. I saw him play last week for Gary though so I thought he should get a card in the set. (more…)
2011 csd Custom – Mike Rohde
Mike has been with Gary for some time now. His hit in the 14th inning of my first game last season at the Steel Yard won the game. The opposing teams right fielder tossed me up the ball, so I have the game winning ball from the longest Railcats home game. For that reason Mike will always hold a special place for me. This is my second American Association card, and the first Railcats card. (more…)
2011 csd Custom – Amos Ramon
Last season I saw Amos play for the Lake County Fielders. In that game against the Railcats he had a great game so he got a custom card. This year I saw him play an exhibition game against the Railcats, and was thinking about putting him in the set just because he was in last years set. My choice was made very easy when in the fifth inning he hit a foul ball that bounced off the stadium, and then rolled right down to my seat. (more…)
1989 Upper Deck – Jay Pecci
At least right now Jay is no longer a member of the Railcats. The way rosters change for Gary though I will not be sure who is really on this team until just before the season starts. The roster on the website last year didn’t seem to be updated too often until just before the season. (more…)
1989 Upper Deck – Mike Rohde
Saturation Saturday continues with this card of Mike Rohde. Mike is the first baseman for the Gary SouthShore Railcats of the American Association. I go to a few games each year in Gary so I thought I might try a couple of their players to see how it looked. I love this picture of Mike sliding into home on Opening Day. Just the way he is making sure he touches the plate. Part of the fun of attending these smaller games is the fact you can get a little closer to the action for a lower price. (more…)
