2011 csd Custom – Chad Pierce
This is the third card of Chad that I have featured on this blog. I made up an ’86 Topps card for the back of this card and when he was drafted tweaked this cards design a bit for a draft card for him. This will be the final card of Chad in a Milwaukee uniform. I hope that I can see him down the road professionally to get some more pictures of him. (more…)
2011 csd All Star Glossy – Brandon League
With the All Star game being played tonight I thought I would put out some of my All Star Glossy cards that I have been making. I like the retro design, and besides that meant that I didn’t have to come up with a design of my own for this set. I thought that I would start today off with Brandon. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Joe Mauer
The last preview card of the 2011 set goes to Joe Mauer. I wanted to finish off this subset strong with a few good players. Since I had all the good players from the Sox in the set already I had to pick a few from other teams. Even though Joe plays for the Sox biggest rival he is still a good player and a good guy. It would be hard to top him to finish off this set. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Ichiro
You know a player is very good when nobody ever uses his last name. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Cole Hamels
Cole is my sleeper pick for the National League Cy Young award this season. He is on such a good staff that I think he gets overlooked. Pitching deep in the rotation should get him some favorable matchups leading to a good season. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Mark Teahen
Mark was a White Sox killer as a member of the Royals. He has not played up to that level as a member of the Sox. He has shown signs of what he can do though. Mark is the last member of the Sox that will show up in this preview set. I am winding down the cards that I have, and unless something drastic happens tonight will be the last night for these cards. Tomorrow I can release some other cards for once. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Austin Jackson
Austin is a very good young outfielder for the Tigers. He was so good in fact that the Tigers traded away a local favorite Curtis Granderson. I tried something new on this card. I added an outline around the number on the card. I really like how it looks, and I think that the real set will have it. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Brennan Boesch
Brennan came up to the Tigers last April because of an injury, and never looked back. He hit a double off the first pitch he ever saw in the majors. He kept it going to become the rookie of the month in May and June. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Brad Lidge
Brad has gone from being the Big East player of the year while at Notre Dame to getting the last out in the 2008 World Series as the Phillies closer. He is a veteran closer that now has over 200 saves. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – A.J. Burnett
A.J. is someone that I may have had a misconception about before this post. I thought that he was always on the DL, but looking at his stats I can see that is not always the case. I guess his missing the 2003 has just stuck in my mind for some reason. He is a very good pitcher that continues to baffle hitters in New York. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Tyler Colvin
Tyler is a young Cub with a lot of promise. As a Sox fan I could not figure out last season why he was not getting more playing time. I know that I am not supposed to have favorite players on the Cubs, but I really enjoy watching Tyler play the game. Maybe he can fill in for Paulie once he retires. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Jeff Manship
Jeff was one of three very good pitchers on the 2006 Notre Dame staff. Tom Thornton was one of them who now pitches in Independant ball. His other counterpart Jeff Samardzija now is a relief pitcher for the Cubs. Manship has been trying to make his way onto the Twins roster for the last couple of seasons. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Matt Thornton
“Matty Ice” is one of my favorite Sox players. It may be because we are the same age. It may be because we are both left-handed. It might also be because he makes throwing hard look so easy. Whatever it is I enjoy watching him pitch. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Nick Blackburn
I saw Nick pitch last April against the White Sox. He is a solid player that makes this set once again because I liked the picture of him. It’s not that the picture is that great, but there is just something about it that I like. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Andrew Cashner
If I had not seen Andrew pitch Tuesday this card would probably have not been made. I had the backs for three more Cubs cards made, but was wondering if I should make the front for a couple of them. I liked the picture that was ready to go on the card, and seeing him in person made the card a reality. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Luke Carlin
This is another example of a card getting in because of the picture. I know that I need to get this set completely posted so that I can start making the regular 2011 set. I was going to just trash this card, but I really like the picture on it so it stays. (more…)
2011 csd Opening Day – Adam Dunn
One of the reasons I was so excited to go to the game yesterday was to see the debut of Adam Dunn. He was highly touted, and did not disappoint. He hit a bomb in the third inning that was a no-doubter off the bat. He is a power hitter that will have his share of strikouts, but he will also hit his fair share of home runs. He found the second deck in right field during batting practice yesterday after knocking a couple off the second deck facade. (more…)
2011 csd Opening Day – John Danks
Yesterday I was lucky enough to be in Cleveland to see the Sox open the season against the Indians. A while back I had decided to try an Opening Day mini set using only pictures taken on Opening Day. Of course I just thought that it would be the Sox Opening Day in Chicago. Here is the first of those cards. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Nick Markakis
Nick was selected in the MLB draft twice by the Reds in 2001 and 2002, but did not sign either time. In 2003 he was taken 7th overall by the Orioles, and this time Nick signed. He has blossomed into a solid outfielder that the Orioles hope that they can build around. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Jimmy Rollins
Jimmy is a fun player to watch. He is very good at what he does for one. When he has a microphone on him for TV you realize that after he is done playing he could end up in a studio. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Brian McCann
Sitting here watching some baseball at lunch I saw that Brian MCann has driven in the first run of the season. Since I have yet to release his 2011 preview card I thought I would do it now. He is an All Star catcher who really is one of the best in baseball. With that RBI in his first at bat he gets off to a solid start. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Justin Smoak
Justin has been around a bit as a player. Since he joined the Rangers organization in 2008 he has seemingly been on a couple teams a year. Hopefully he can find some stability this season with the Mariners. He came to Seattle as the key piece the Rangers had to offer to get Cliff Lee. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Mark Ellis
Mark became an Athletic in 2001 when he came over from the Royals with Johnny Damon. He has since locked down the second base position. Last season he was healthy and came up just a little shy of batting .300. (more…)
2011 csd Preview – Edwin Jackson
Edwin came to the Sox last season from the Diamondbacks. It was thought at the time that he would be traded to the Nationals for Adam Dunn. That never happened though, and as we start the 2011 season the White Sox have both players. I would say that everything worked out. (more…)
