Gary Railcats

1987 Topps – Jay Pecci

Jay is no longer a member of the Railcats, but this is the only card I had ready to go. I have held this card back simply because Jay was no longer on the team. I will be at the Railcats exhibition game when this posts so I thought it was only fitting that I had a Railcats card on the blog. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Adam Klein

I used this picture Friday as part of my Jackie Robinson post on my other site. Just out of frame is Jackie’s #42 on the wall. As I was going through my cards to see what I had for Minor League Monday I saw this one, and thought it would be perfect. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Jay Pecci

At least right now Jay is no longer a member of the Railcats. The way rosters change for Gary though I will not be sure who is really on this team until just before the season starts. The roster on the website last year didn’t seem to be updated too often until just before the season. (more…)

1987 Topps – Tanner Townsend

Minor League Monday continues with Tanner Townsend. Tanner has spent two stints with the Railcats. He played so well in his first that he was sold to the Florida Marlins. He returned to Gary last season for another go. I will always remember him as the player who the first home run ball I caught. I was just standing in left field along the concourse when he hit one to me. That is still the only home run ball I own. (more…)

1987 Topps – Cristian Guerrero

Last season Cristian did something that has not been done before in the Northern League. He hit five home runs in 5 straight at bats. In fact the feat had only been done twice before in professional baseball. I know that the name is spelled wrong on the card, but error cards are part of the game. (more…)

1989 Upper Deck – Mike Rohde

Saturation Saturday continues with this card of Mike Rohde. Mike is the first baseman for the Gary SouthShore Railcats of the American Association. I go to a few games each year in Gary so I thought I might try a couple of their players to see how it looked. I love this picture of Mike sliding into home on Opening Day. Just the way he is making sure he touches the plate. Part of the fun of attending these smaller games is the fact you can get a little closer to the action for a lower price. (more…)

Jeff Williams

Jeff is one of the better relievers in the Railcats bullpen. I have seen him come in multiple times this season and shut the other team down. The strentght of the bullpen is one of the reasons the ‘Cats have the wins that they do this season. (more…)
