1989 Upper Deck – Manny Ramirez
Manny will be an interesting player to watch when his time comes for the writer’s to vote him into the Hall of Fame. He was suspended once for 50 games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. The second time that he was caught this spring he just retired rather than face the penalty. He put up some great numbers during his career, and was one of the leagues most feared hitters during his time. The way his career ended will cost him votes from the writer’s. The question is will it keep him out of the Hall?
I took this picture in 2009 as the Dodgers were in Milwaukee to face the Brewers. This particular picture shows Manny waiting for his turn at bat in the on deck circle. He was sitting on 535 home runs, and needed one to tie Mickey Mantle on the all time list. I really wanted to see him get that mark, and a long double early in the game looked like it had a chance. It fell short though giving some other fans the joy of seeing that home run on a later date.
