1989 Hoops – JaJuan Johnson
The celebration of the two Purdue draft picks continues with this ’89 Hoops card. I picked this card for a couple of reasons. One of them is that this was the year that I probably had the most cards. I love this simple design. It is one of the favorites of my childhood. The other reason is that this is the birth year of JaJuan Johnson. He was taken with the 27th overall pick in the NBA Draft last night by the Nets, and then traded to the Boston Celtics.
This picture was taken this past spring as JJ was walking back to the huddle in the second half of a game against Wisconsin. I was sitting in the lower bowl for once, and loved the intensity on JJ’s face as he walked off the court. He always seemed like a very low key guy, but he could really get going when someone made him angry. Part of the reason for taking this picture was because I knew good things would happen after the timeout.
