merging my pictures and cards

2011 csd Custom – Ben Olglivie

Part of the fun of going to these minor league games is seeing some stars from the past on the field. I remember Ben as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers. He played for much of the 80’s as a member of their team. I really thought that he played longer than he did before looking him up for this card, but he did have a lengthy career.

Ben is the first base coach along with his duties as the hitting coach for the Whitecaps. I took the picture on the front of the card as he was coming out to his spot prior to the game. I made all the Whitecaps cards for the backs from my ’87 Topps template. I did not intend to put Ben’s actual ’87 Topps card on the back when I started out, but it was always in the back of my mind. It is the card I think of when I think of Ben. In the end it just made sense to put the card on the back. This card has always shown me how some really love playing the game. It is ironic thought that Ben never played a game in the ’87 season for a MLB team. He played his last Major League game in 1986. Topps did give us this great card though, and I am glad.
