Joe Mauer – All Star
With the first round of balloting results issued yesterday I thought that it would be a good time to make a couple All Star cards. The first one is of course Joe Mauer. In 1985 Topps really had no rhyme or reason to how they put players on the All Star cards. Some players were placed in the set at the whim of Topps apparently. My plan was to take the players that make the 2010 team that I have seen and put them in the set. I picked Mauer to do as a test card because I am positive that he will make the squad, and if for some reason he doesn’t I could just use 1985 Topps logic. It will be interesting to me to see how this sub set pans out. I could end up with 50+ cards if I put all the all stars in. I guess I will have to wait and see who is chosen before I decide how to do it. I also plan on attending the Midwest League All Star game in Fort Wayne. I think that I will create a separate set for these players. I may even use a different All Star card. I have been thinking about the 1986 Topps All Stars. I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there.
This picture was taken last September when Joe was warming up Jeff Manship at the Cell. I really liked this picture and wanted to find a use for it. Thank God for the All Star subset. I finally got a chance to use this picture, and I think it fits the All Star set perfectly.
